Renault power 6 cars (including RBR) so that's a minimum of 24 of each part over the season. How many spares of the Race 1 spec do you build? If you make a change to improve reliability of that how many of that next spec of each do you build?
At what point in the season does Renault realise that it would be best served to invest in and prototype next years power unit parts which many of a completely different design or configuration rather than another produce another batch of current spec that may or may not be needed?
Sure it looks like Renault have miscalculated but I'm not sure it can be called amateurish.

Given that the AMG Project One road car is slated to cost $2.8M complete, and Red Bull and STR are paying $85M a piece for their F1 engines, and now don't have spares, I think criminally extortionate would be a wholly more appropriate term than amateurish.
