Thanks for the heads up on the Noonan book as I wasn't aware of it.I have ordered it and will get back with a comparison when it arrives.Its raining Bathurst annuals!
As for your comment about comparing the V8 Xtra book to The Great Race while it isn't the minute by minute car by car commentary that book was in 20 pages of text you can give a lot of detail.As a point of comparison Chevrons big Bathurst history books had 6-7 pages on each race.
The fantastic Le Mans race annual has no long form text at all until you get to the Technical Review and an interview at the end of the book.It uses 4-5 line descriptors besides each photo.There are lots of ways to do this.
