Yes, I have wondered about that front bodywork as well, as it didn't look very suited to the track. I think that Porsche's point of view was, as it was in 1996 and 1997, "if we can't get the GT1 to win, at least a Porsche of some sort to win" although it was netered as a works effort alongside team Joest.
