Any super saloons living in South West?
Hello folks,
I'm wondering if there are any (ex)super saloons or thundersaloons living in the South West of England, or willing to travel to Haynes Museum to be part of a display at a show I'm putting on. It is the Retro Rides Gathering ( http://www.retroridesgathering.com ) a show for modified older cars, I'm putting together a line up of cars that have influenced the sort of thing we do and show some of the great cars and engineering the UK has produced. I'd really like to include one of the surviving Super saloons or thunder saloons in the line up. If you know of one, or even better own one, can you drop me a message on here, that would be great. I know people would much rather be out on the track than static at shows, but I'm very keen to spread the word and get more people attending club level racing, so with that in mind if you are local and not racing on the weekend of the 16th August and don't mind coming along I'd love for some more club level classic and historic cars to be there. I guess official display from event organisers would be a dream scenario to get people attending and hopefully competing in classic motorsport. -David |

No one able to help us out on the classic racer front? We had a great response from when we worked with VSCC, both from people attending and the guys that had their cars there (and a number of people went and saw more VSCC events as a result!).

Yeah I figured that might be the problem, was hoping at least one lived down South West, Somerset, Wiltshire, Devon etc. which would be fine for paying fuel for and could travel from home on the day. Seems most are further North.
The intention is that next year we'll get all of the remaining cars together in one place, it is a fairly epic task, but we should be able to pay fuel etc. for that We should also have some help in getting that together though |

I think getting the display sponsored would certainly ease the organising of it .. I think it is going to be fairly tricky to 'collect the set' as it were. I'm sure we'll not get the car that lives in the USA, but I'm hopefully we'll get the ones that live in Ireland.

Yup, we'll look into the best routes from Ireland, we bought a couple of interesting (road going custom) cars over from Sweden 2 years ago and picking the right ferry at the right times on the right day made a lot of difference to price.
I understand from Gregor that one of the old Super Saloons now lives in Miami,.. in my head it is road going and trawls up and down Ocean Drive , I suspect in reality it is just living in a collection somewhere though. |

I'm not sure, it was something that Gregor mentioned in passing, maybe he'll reply here, or I'll send him an email.
I'd still love a current historic/classic circuit car (or two) for the show, doesn't have to be some super rare Aston or anything, in some ways it is better if it isn't, Cortina, Lancia Fulvia, Fiat 500, Escort,.. any bread and butter historic racer, hopefully convert a few people to wanting to get out to see some more racing. Besides there will be lots of photos flying round the net afterwards so sponsors will be pleased |

Show is on the 16th August at the Haynes museum at Sparkford in Yeovil, I've had a brief look around and can't see any obvious clashes, although I guess the BRSCC event at Brands might take a few people out.
All/any of the people you've listed would be of interest I think, if any of those folk are on here and are interested can you drop me a PM please The Imp club have a strong presence at the show so I think Adrian Oliver's Imp would go down very well. Obviously Vince Woodman's Capri would be of particular interest to a lot of people too. |
