Great TV Coverage for Festival
A great TV package is being provided for the 2009 Formula Ford Festival.
The Duratec/Kent and Zetec competitions will all be covered and the event should make for great television. Thank you to everyone who has made this possible. It is good news for Formula Ford 1600. James |

Just watched Kent Festival coverage on Motors TV. Never seen a race edited to the point that the lead battle recieves almost zero coverage!! Made it look like Scott only reeled Rory in because if the safety car when in reality it was the saftey car that saved Rory's skin. Very disapointing!!

I've just watched (and thoroughly enjoyed) this, and I agree the coverage was a bit strange as the cameras seemed to switch between covering the leaders to midfield tussles and then back for no apparent reason. That said, as a neutral observer I really enjoyed the coverage of the final. Whatever the leading group were doing it would have had to be really spectacular to beat the multi-car tussle for 5th place. Made me wish I'd been able to go to Brands and watch for myself.
Anyway, congrats to everyone who took part and to Motors TV for broadcasting the event. |

Thought the coverage was v.good, one hour of ff1600 racing! The top 4 in the final did not race until the safety car came in so you can't blame them for not showing cars following each other around for 20 laps, but the race for 5th was awesome if that was for the lead it would have been one of the best fff in history.

It was good to see an hour dedicated to FF1600 - especially as I wasn't at the Festival this year - and the racing was good. I thought the coverage could have been improved on in a few ways, and while I don't think they should have shown the leaders "following each other around for 20 laps", I think there should have been a bit more recognition that Rory, Scott, Morgan and yourself were clear of the rest, Neville.

Great to see this on TV, even if only on a rather obscure chanel. Shame there was no onboard footage though, maybe next year ?

If someone is prepared to pay for it, then I am sure there will be more coverage.

Ian - out of interest - what would it do to race entry fees to cover the cost of TV coverage for the average meeting of say 150 cars? £20-30 a head or am i miles off?

Based on what little I know, probably not a million miles away for a one day meeting, depending on the production company concerned and a few other variables.

Im assuming Jeremy Shaws RfA organisation made a contribution ot the production costs. Not that thats a bad thing, especially if it ensures we see quality stuff like the Festival.
One thing I have noticed over the years, Jezzas Yanks are way more media savvy than our own kids - a general thing with the septics or maybe the coaching that Mr Shaw gives 'em? Wonder what he thinks of US F1 btw? |

I agree with your latter point, ghinzani. De Phillippi this year, and Newgarden and Daly last, were much better to deal with from my point of view than all bar a handful of the young British and Irish drivers I have come across.
On the subject of how the coverage was funded, I can only speculate but you may well be right. If that is the case, and it impacts on editorial judgements, it would be helpful to viewers if this is flagged up... |
