Major Engine Confiscation
Well, this is interesting. I guess Nascar wants to see where every team is on horsepower with everyone else. Virtually at least one engine was to be taken from each team. The problem is, some of these teams may be scarse on engines, so is this a good idea?
NASCAR plans to take engines after Michigan: UPDATE: NASCAR will confiscate at least 18 Sprint Cup engines following this weekend to run on the dynamometers at their technical center back in Concord, N.C. The engines of the #46 and 66 cars that failed to qualify for the Carfax 400 were taken by officials on Friday. "They want to see where everyone stands in comparison," said Tony Furr, crew chief of the #46 car. Another motor man was told by an official that it would be "the largest lot of engines" NASCAR has ever tested and they expected to be "dynoing engines until after Bristol."(Fox Sports)(8-14-2010) UPDATE: According to NASCAR, they took 16 engines after the Michigan race to conduct dyno testing: #48-Johnson, #14-Stewart, #29-Harvick, #42-Montoya, #11-Hamlin, #83-Sorenson, #56-Truex, Jr., #47-Ambrose, #66-Riggs, #87-Nemechek, #77-Hornish, #12-Keselowski, #46-Yeley, #99-Edwards, #9-Kahne, #26-Carpentier.(8-14-2010) |

Agreed would be very interesting to see where many of the top cars stand compared to the others.

The more interesting thing may be the power curve, more than just outright horsepower.... maybe they can describe it like a magazine test
e.g. #47 Toyota 654bhp @ 7,322 rpm with 674Nm of torque @ 7,112 rpm #48 Chev 911bhp @ 7,755 rpm with 784Nm of torque @ 6,913 rpm Or something like that |

I wonder if they're going to try and fiddle like the FIA did and end up changing nothing? The Mercedes F1 engine for example is still ridiculously good compared to its rivals like the Chevvy engine maybe is.
All of this of course will be chucked out the window if they move to injection... (Come on NASCAR, bow down to the almighty Ron) |

Or Nascar will butt out and let the teams do their own development. Are we going for IROC here? Ernie Elliot is rolling over in his... bed?

I think the comparison between the same make of engine would be interesting, like a pukka JGR Toyota engine against one direct from TRD as used by MWR... I am betting there is a massive difference in delivery if not outright power as well.. |

It was interesting to watch Ambrose qualify a couple of weeks ago in the nationwide at The Glen where they have all the info like speed, qualify position etc up on display real time. He lost time on the straights to Busch but made it all up in the corners, even during the race when he was behind Busch he had no chance keeping up coming out of the last corner down the straight.

No reason to think the JTG Nationwide car would have better power than the JTG Sprint Cup car is there?
