You'll probably have to post a bit more to get the rights to post pics.
I do know that Dave Thomas has an ex Spice shell. Its got Group 2 (X pack) bodywork now. Mine is painted as a tribute to the '78 Spa 24hrs winning car. (Hasn't got that "special" diff though). |

Gordon Spice - an irregular visitor to the BRDC. Seems in fine fettle a few weeks back. Well, actually up to his old mischief - bit of a drink, bit of a wind up etc ...

Motorsport did an article on him about a year ago. Always admire a self made man. Set up quite a business empire from nothing. Not only that he could peddle a car as quick as anyone.- Untill Andy Rouse drove round the outside of him at Old hall Good Friday '80 in what is now a much missed Easter meeting!
Had the honesty to call it a day when he stated that the times just wern't there any more. Peter - That Belga colour scheme for me goes down as one of the all time greats |

And was part of a group of racers who were talking to the local state government to take over the running of the Eastern Creek Raceway here in Oz.... the plan was to get a sports car manufacturing operation up....
Mr Spice was also a Bathurst starter, in a Toyota Celica many years ago as well.. so he has been around.. |

I undertand that Mr Spice is involved in a bit of property development. IIRC he lives near the Thames river and owns quite a bit of land which he has been developing. It could even be an island on the Thames
As well as a race car constructor, he also ran Gordon Spice Racewear with a gentleman called Keith Cundell. Gordon sold his share of the business to Keith which then changes its name to International Spares specialising in export sales of motorsport parts. International Spares is now part of Raceparts in Wallingford. I have enjoyed many an hour in his company, usually involving quantities of Rum and Coke. His party tricks are hillarious, usually involving some poor unsuspecting waitress stacking up glasses on to a table only for Gordon to bet her that he can pull the table cloth out without disturbing them.......as you can imagine the carnage that follows is hilarious |

If anyone speaks to him, can they do me a big favour and ask him what happened to the F5000 Lola T332 he drove in 1975? It was crashed, rebuilt and driven late in the season by Bill Gubelman. It was advertised by Reed Racing (contact Gordon Spice) in Autosport 18 Dec 1976 and then vanishes. Lola T332s hardly ever "vanish" so I'm perplexed by this one.
Thanks Allen |

I last saw Gordon Spice a couple of years ago at a BRDC event at Silverstone. I used to work for him back in the mid seventies at his warehouse in Staines, and we had a bit of a chat about those days. I can't offer anything very concrete about the Lola, but I remember it being dismantled and crated up for shipping to it's new owner in the back of the warehouse. I think it went to the States. From memory, though, I would have said that this took place somewhat earlier in 1976 than December.

Hi cirrus
Thanks for that. I suspect my notes are mistranscribed and that I meant that it was advertised 18 Dec 1975, not 1976. It makes sense that it left the country as I've heard nothing of it since. And the US is the most likely destination. Allen |

Yes, Allen, I reckon it was probably shipped around March/April '76. For the record, the tub showed obvious signs of its front end repair, and "Gordy" had a very pronounced "Lola Limp".
