Lydden Hill Rallycross 7th Dec

Not too sure whether the entry is very strong but this could be worth a look |

It's going to depend on the strength of the entry whether I make the trip or not - hopefully it'll be well supported, the winter rounds are generally good fun.

I was looking forward to going depending on entry but once again work going to be calling so a no go. There dose seam to be a bit more interest from teams so hopefully will be a good turn out.
From the regulations that were put out before the first round the catogries max entries are below: Category Maximum Entry 4wd 12 2wd up to 1600cc 12 2wd above 1600cc 12 Classic & Retro 10 Juniors 10 If the get to fill those enteries it would be a great days racing. |

Those numbers would definitely be enough to justify the drive: though I already have racing withdrawal, so just half those will probably be enough to get me to Lydden!

As you say, the withdrawals are already setting in, local banger meeting doesn't quite tick the right box although it's better than nothing - looks like a two and half hour trip for me coming up!

Lydden wasn't as cold as I thought it was going to be! Some close racing (particularly the Juniors) although attrition seemed quite high. Good to have the winter series back again.

Agree with regards to the rate of attrition: was hoping to see more of the Retro field make it to the Super Final. Some good races though and great to have a bit of motorsport this late in the year again. |

As you say, great to have a bit of motorsport this late in the year. Sorry Bert I'm pretty sure I recognized you wandering round with camera in hand but my brain was elsewhere! It's my first visit to Lydden this year and I was impressed with the general appearance of the venue, it's certainly improved over the past few years. |

Was hoping to see a bit more of John Cross, I know it's not a genuine Stratos, but I still think its a cracking car. I have never seen Vince on track and not be entertaining. His BMW is probably the plainest looking car on the grid, but he always drives it flat out. Was wondering that yesterday: sure they were talking about the latest planning permission in June or July, so surely they should have a decision soon? |

I thought on the whole it was a good meeting - could do with more entries but it had a generally relaxed vibe to it and was a proper 'clubman' meeting. If the winter series can become established it offers a relatively cheap way into the sport. |

I think Lydden have the right idea here and also, potentially a way to perhaps start to repair damage that has been done for decades now.

Simon Arran's right up for motorsport magazine echoes the sentiment regarding lack of spectators:
https://www.motorsportmagazine.com/o...tH2fpB81rvj_Io I wonder how many local people were aware of the event let alone those more geographically removed, it seems that only a few hardy(and possibly slightly mad) people attend such obscure "clubbie" meetings. |

If you look at the number of people that watch the circuit based rallies over the winter you can see that there is an audience out there (although the next winter rallycross round does clash with the Brands Hatch stage rally I think?). Hopefully the entries will continue to rise for the remaining rounds of the winter series - if it can become an established feature again (rather than the "is it on or not" of recent times) then Lydden could be onto a good thing - providing "off season" action for both competitors and spactators. |

If it wasn't for work on Saturday I would have been there as a despite the entry being on the smaller side there was enough to sudjest a good days racing was possible and from the reports I've read thats exactly what happend. As for the lack of spectators, maybe that not such a bad thing for these first few meetings as i get the impression its all about Lydden learning how to run a full event, from start to finish and all the behind the scences things that need to be done. Hopefully the next round won't clash with the Brands Stages Rally as there are a few RX crews who have done that event in last few years.

Lydden know perfectly well how to run an event surely, I have seen most of the people running events that are at Silverstone at Lydden too, it is the marshals and officials that do it, all Lydden do is the PR and basic organising and track hire primarily and they have been doing that for years now.
It's not a huge step up. I worry about the numbers, it's great for someone like Arron to go there and be all nostalgic, but that few cars is not going to make it worthwhile for long, they must be making a huge loss, but it is their loss to make I guess. Back in the day there was a winter series and also pretty much a summer one, plus full fields in national racing. Don't forget the Dorans pretty much closed off Lydden to circuit racers, thereby closing off a nice little loop of Brands and Lydden for club racers. The circuit rallies are only really well attended at Cadwell and Oulton, when I went to Brands it was quiet and Snettrton is aswell, praps a few hundred people. Cadwell was huge last year, and Oulton always seems to be. |

The use of social media by Lydden is very odd though - if you look at how MSV use it there is stuff fed out across the various channels on a regular basis, with Lydden it's pretty much radio silence. Given how easy it is to post previews of meetings, entrylists, a quick report and a few photos from a meeting I don't understand why Lydden are so bad at it? Being better at that would help get more people through the gates surely? |

From the top of my head: Permit fees Rescue Doctor Recovery (possibly in house anyway) Security/gate staff? Wouldn't be surprised if that's volunteers or local charity who get a cut of the gate. I'm not suggesting that they're running it well, but I wouldn't be surprised if the event is wiping it's face. |

Can't see an entry list for this weekend's winter series at Lydden Hill...?

Radio silence from Lydden still - it's really not hard is it? All they need to do is post something on Facebook and Twitter. Come on Lydden - we all want it to succeed, don't make it harder than it needs to be!

Seems crazy that small motor clubs run by volunteers can put out entry lists in advance, but companies like Lydden can't.
