Relocation of Pro-Car categories
I read with interest the various scenarios regarding the relocation of the various Pro-Car categories.
Brutes to Avesco, F3 to Konica etc. Even Gary Rogers suggests that certain categories should be incorporated with the V8 series'. Question. What about the stalwarts of the V8 supports Commodore Cup and Saloon Cars? Both of these categories have supported both the main game and the Konica V8s with large, very competitive grids for the past four or so years. Compare the grid sizes and lap times and you will see that both categories out perform several of the Pro-Car (and other) categories hands down. In my opinion it would be an injustice for these two categories to be replaced on the V8 card with "lesser" category. |

Is there the possibility that organisers could fit in the other categories without taking away the commodore cup and saloon cars?? More racing on the program would have to be a positive.

No idea 17jnr, but maybe if Avesco didn't take up so much time with their media rides, 30mins of pit lane set up etc. etc. i'm sure they could.

That's what i reckon Kerri. With some good organisation, maybe we could have more on track action and less mucking around in the pits.

The big problem with commodoore cup and saloons, they are cars that are 10 to 20 years old!!!
Sure, some of the competitors would be upset to lose there "support" status, but lets face some facts, they are categories that were initially intended for Club and state level racing. |

That doesn't mean they don't have a place on the support bill for major races.
Where would this thinking leave the Historic Tourers? |

OK, disregard the age issue.
Its more to the point that these categories were only ever intended to be club or state level. |

I'm sorry hoffy, but if you go back too when these categories, especially Saloon Cars were introduced i.e. The towards 2000 & beyond document, they were introduced to replace HQ's at National meetings, not state. As at that time HQ's were running Nationally as well as State.

I thought HQ's were a dead category?? Is it true that no more log books have been issued?? That was my understanding...

And what is that supposed to mean??
I was just stating what my understanding of the Salon Cars/Hq's was. I never said I was right. IF CAMS had there way, we would see no more Q's, Vees..... |

I honestly dont know.
In some ways I would like to see them on the AVESCO bill. But I would really like to see them continue with there own series. With the correct promotion (not saying that Rossp did anything wrong) this series could become really popular. And at least the promotors who dont feed off the AVESCO gravy train have a chance to have another national series compete at their tracks |

Yes I would like to see them continue as they are, maybe under a new name or whatever (who cares) I think there needs to be another promoter with enough categories to run a full event.
Imagine if someone did that in Adelaide apart from SCCSA, but had all their own categories & ran them all over Australia. |

OK, how about this.
Marque sports(inc nations cups. Seems to work for the vics!) GTP APCC F3 Sports Sedans Chuck in a few Local support categories (such as Improved Prod) Now that would make an entertaining meeting |

Thats not bad, but I think SS could be a problem if you go by this forum. MS & NC together would be good. What about the Brutes, I think they would be the main show wouldn't they?

It all comes down to which categories can Cochrane bleed for the most cash..... he has no concept of what would constitute a good meeting for fans, he'll go for what will give him personally the best return.... if that means 86ing existing support categories, it'll happen, and with frig-all notice to the competitors, i'll bet.

I read with interest in other posts how PROCAR have been going for 10 years,10 years is a long time.Lets think about that, they were in bussines PRIOR to the AVESCO mob turning up,so well before even the Brock Classic. If they had been around that long who were they an alternative to and what did they race???????????????????????? |

Just my spin on things...lets face it Cochrane is in it for the money....I am sure he never attended a race meeting at all until he was put in charge of it @ IMG...hell did he not bring Sinatra out all those years ago????
Cochrane is not interested in motor racing, TC is interested in money....if V8 supercars went belly up tomorrow TC would likey say Oh well I move on to something else now. It S%*#$ me no end when you go to Winton, Sandown etc...and get the same old entertainment...nothing. Hell the Donut King donut bikes, VB Challenge....hell you can see this on a Saturday night down Chapel Street. What we need is motor racing...years ago when Tander, Richards, Bright etc...were running around in the Formula Ford it was worth watching...now it is not. I would like to see in no particular order brutes, FF, GTP, Lotus Challenge, Carrera Cup, V8 The doubt this will happen though, the powers that be who run V8 Supercars only believe there are 2 manufacturers in this country. |
