Getting Started in Classic Thunder

Hi - I'm new to the forum and I'm gradually servicing and track prep'ing an old 1987 Mazda 323 turbo tarmac rally car for blacktop.

I'm sitting my ards in next 2-3 months to get my Nat B. I'm thinking of entering the Classic Thunder series.. any tips or guidance appreciated

P.S: How do you set your avatar - it seems locked out on this forum yet I see mbrs with avatars...

As I recall they could use the entries - go look at the CSCC website - http://www.csccgb.co.uk/ - Carrera is the most recent regular competitor I think and some of the Grp 1 chaps also do the occassional round - Chris Griffin will probably also be along shortly - friendly enough series - I enjoyed my three (?) seasons

Welcome to the forum.

As directed by Jos check out the CTCRC website. The Classic Thunder Championship runs six classes, A-D for the more modified cars and E-F for more production based cars. Grids vary greatly from 12 to 28 depending on the circuit with a number of drivers just racing in one or two rounds close to home. There are a variety of cars including Fords of all ages, Anglia, Escort, Cossie, Fiesta, BMWs from 2002 turbo to M3, Rover SD1 and Vitesse, Golf, Alfa Romeo, 205, Camaro and even a Citroen BX.

At two day meetings there is usally a bbq on the first evening and at most rounds the hospitality unit is in attendance to dispence tea and coffee.

Thanks m8,
I'm really interested in this but will hope to get to see some events being held as well as spend next year going to the tracks and testing the car and find a good workshop to do some proper prep. Sitting my ards b4 end of year then will have a go. Best Rgds Jon

That car is elligible for the ModProds and you get a free set of tyres to kick you off. I always thought on the right day (read damp) one of those may go well.
