Favorite Endurance Race of 2012
With 2012 officially (or almost) behind us, why don't we have a poll to figure out the favorite endurance race of 2012?

My vote goes to Silverstone WEC.
On Saturday night there was a degree of ho-humness about how Audi would run away with it and it was really going to be LMP2 that was worth watching, a theory that completely went out the window come the drag to the first corner and a degree of mild disbelief that the Toyota could outdrag an Audi, and then look like it could legitimately lead. Somehow much more than Le Mans, where I suspect we all felt Toyota lucked into their first 6 hour performance, or that Audi were playing with them, it was the first insight that we might all of a sudden have a package here that could surprise us all - which of course they did a few weeks later in Brazil. Complement that with a good LMP2 showing and GT race to the end, and of course a Vulcan flyby and it comfortably gets my nod for the year. |

My personal favorite was Sebring this year. The race had absolutely everything, and got even better as it progressed. I knew Audi would win the race with neither Peugeot nor Toyota present, but I totally did not expect Muscle Milk to be running on the overall podium up until the last minutes of the race. The team seemed solid but inconsistent last year; now they turned the tables on Dyson (even though both had to work with new cars).
The battle for overall LMP2 was great as well. Although I didn't notice Conquest or Black Swan in the ALMS category, it was fantastic seeing Level 5, Starworks the other WEC teams duking it out for the LMP2 lead. My favorite moments were in the last hour or so when Level 5 and Starworks were dueling for 3rd place overall. Even though Level 5 let Starworks go by eventually, they didn't give it up easily! GT had one of the fiercest fights of the entire year, and oddly enough one of BMW RLL's few good performances this year. I knew AF Corse would be fast since they won PLM two years ago and came in 2nd at that year's Le Mans, but seeing the lead car half-retire opened it up hugely. The Corvette-BMW battles were definitely some of the best battles of the whole season. Then of course the ending had me on the edge of my seat, almost shaking my laptop! Just seeing Joey Hand's face after all that confusion sealed the deal for me. I didn't really notice PC at Sebring, other than the Dempsey Racing car getting into a big crash. Finally, GTC was surprisingly entertaining. Alex Job Racing had to work HARD for that win. Overall, I couldn't ask for more of an endurance race. |

I liked Interlagos because Toyota won, but it wasn't much of a 'race' with Audi. Same with Shanghai. That's why I chose Fuji, because they actually had a battle. Bahrain was shaping up to be mega as well, but for the lighting issue then Lapierre's mistake.

Le Mans gets my vote. But as a GT fan, I also really enjoyed Nurburgring and Spa too. Awesome tracks with some beautiful cars racing.

LOL, who voted for the 24 hrs of Dubai?! No offense to whoever did, I just think that's kind of... weird.
However, a close 2nd and 3rd have to be ALMS at Road America and the 24 Hours of Daytona. Daytona was awesome, probably just because it drowns out the off-season blues and goes for 24 hours. It's always one of my favorites. Road America was awesome because I was there! Also, it was my first chance to see the Vipers in action. It was an extraordinary finish, as well. One to remember. Here's that finish... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pLQvvEJ-U-0 |

Interlagos for me. I just like the track, gritty and a bit run down, it's just a great setting for a sports car race.
Toyota's victory made it one for the history books as well, I thoroughly enjoyed that one |
