The hamster wheel in my brain is turning...
Hmm... Any of you guys know if a Porsche flat six can be crammed into the back of a Karmann Ghia?
I've gotten kind of interested in the car, but it's ridiculously short on power, and not even a 912 engine is really sufficient. But it'd be a cool and unique car, I think, with a Pro Touring-style treatment: Modern brakes, suspension and rubber, and a later Porsche five-speed and flat six (a 3.4, maybe?). The cars are dirt cheap around here, the lack of any guts in the engine puts people off completely. Any other input just on what you think of the car'd be appreciated. I like the looks, very simple and elegant. Reminds me a bit of the old Tucker Torpedo. |

You'll not hear me say this often....
I can't help thinking that in this case you may be better off with a replica kit since a more powerful motor will need upgrades to brakes , suspension etc, etc.... To answere your question however, I've no idea if it would fit |

A rust-free body for $600 is going to come in cheaper than any fiberglass kit.
Then I figure break out the welder and re-engineer the whole front end. Disc brakes, torsion bar front suspension, the whole deal. I wouldn't have any fun if I was sane. Last edited by Lee Janotta; 12 Jan 2003 at 23:46. |

Should fit, I think. After all, the Type 3 K-G had space in the bay for what was effectively the VW Van engine.
Don't think I'd go pro-touring though. I think the lines of the car just cry out for the So-Cal Surfer or the Salt Lake Racer look myself. |
