Only One Audi R8 at LeMans?
A German magazine and gt-eins.de website indicates that there may be only one Audi R8 competing next year, in the hands of Joest for Philip Peter and Marco Werner sponsored by Infineon.
It 's very hard to believe!!! and Goh?? and Champion?? and Johansson? and also Rahal?.....or Prost?? |

I don't buy it if it means 1 x R8 - perhaps it means 1 x Joest-run R8! - still newsworthy but not quite as dramatic!!

I think its one 'Works'/Works backed Joest R8 + maybe 2 Champion, Goh and who ever else buys a car. Johansson. Prost, Audi UK who knows.

I believe Champion have confirmed they will run at least one of their cars at Le Mans next season. They may run 2 if AudiSportNorthAmerica throw some backing their way.

Sure, I can see that happening.
So-2 Panoz,4 Audi R-8s, 2 Bentleys and maybe 2 semi factory Cadillacs in LMP 900. There will be at least 5 or 6 MG Lolas running all the events plus a bunch of uprated SR2 cars in LMP 675 that can win overall. Maybe things will be OK in ALMS 2003 after all. Then again...Cadillac won't give the cars to a private team. Bentley will only race at Sebring and LM. Panoz may only do Mosport,Sebring and PLM. Who can afford to run an Audi R-8, unless they get big help from Audi? The MG Lolas are fragile and it is looking like it will be tough to beat even one Audi with an LMP 675. Still, it should be a great 2003 for the ALMS. |

Yeah, of course but the ALMS is not only about the LMPs. GTS will definately be stronger next year and GT will have some more variety.
As for LMP, well there are competitive cars out there to buy such as the Audi, MG, Dallara, Dome etc. 2003 is a transition year but 'should' be good for privateers for a change with the factories concentrating on 2004. With sportscars when have you ever been sure as to what will happen the following year. At least now there is the stability of the ACO controlled Le Mans plus the ALMS has put down some strong roots. BTW KM good to here from you again |
