MARC Cars
Since the first MARC cars were introduced I thought that it was showing Supercars what could have been (should have been) with COTF, now they bring out MARC 2 and all I can think of is WOW!!! Quicker than a Supercar around Bathurst and half the price.
Did Supercars miss the boat? I always believed that if they were serious about reducing budgets with the introduction of COTF they should have reduced the power of the engine, which reduces stress on the engine and driveline, reduces rebuild cost, reduce transmission failures.....blah blah blah Why is a supercar so much more expensive? |

The philosophies of COTF and the MARC are not really that much different are they? I hardly think costs will be much cheaper if Supercars adopted the MARC regs for the series.
The MARC will not be be quicker than a Supercar around Bathurst, they won't be allowed below a 2m06 |

Would be interesting to see what they could do without the lap limit though

Bridgestone tyres were largely developed by the largesse of the Philip Morris tobacco company with GSR, whilst the Yokohama product was lovingly tested and developed with the support and assistance of WD & HO Wills with GMS. While Dunlop took input from everywhere, including customers, and succeeded anyway. Those days are gone. And its not on the back of anti-competitiveness, its financial sensibility. |

Tyre companies aren't that interested in directly competing with eachother on track.
They do all their winning in the tender process, to become the control tyre. As seen in the majority of motorsport catagories in Australia. It's an easy way to help sustainablilty, by capping the costs, and going some way to shoring up the playing field. |

When COTF was introduced they could have reduced the power of the engine (limiting compression, cam duration and lift, 7000rpm rev limit) and no one would have known or cared, all cars would be the same. That would have reduced stress on the transmission etc. which would have reduced breakages and costs.
Someones ego must have got in the way when COTF regs were designed because they used the racer mantra of 'more power, go faster' instead of doing what the category needed to achieve the desired outcome. The plan was to save the teams money so they changed the transmission away from what everyone had in stock, how was that saving money? The MARC cars are demonstrating what could have, should have happened with COTF, which would have saved everyone a lot of money.... and those Mustangs look good. |

MARC cars are similar to a supercar, uses a similar transmission to what you are complaining about, but with a standard motor instead of a motor that is open to a level of competition |

Still got the awkward proportions of a sports sedan, I actually prefer the MARC 1 car.
