Ralph Firman confirmed at Jordan!
Just reading itv's site which has confirmation that Ralph Firman has signed for 3 years at Jordan Grand Prix. It doesn't mention what sponsorship he has brought with the team but the B&H stickers seemed a bit larger than last year. It will be very interesting to see how he goes. So the driver jigsaw is now complete so lets bring on Melbourne.

Good for Ralph, though I would have preffered to have seen Massa in the car, I think he's got a lot nmore to offer the sport and I hope he gets back into a race seat next season.

Contracts seem to mean very little these days, Massa, De La Rosa and Salo have all had them dishonoured for next season, and I'm sure that if Ralph struggles he will be out the door.
Quite often in recent F1 history, British driver shave been underfunded, and either fallen short of F1, or lost out to sponsored drivers. Ralph represents a reversal of this, a paydriver who shouldn't be expected to be competitive, starting a career next season with little track testing is a big disadvantage, and so is having Fisichella as team-mate. We're gonna have to be careful not to confuse Ralph and Ralf. |

Well, never heard of him - but this doesn't mean anything - but he's known as former F3 driver. But I think he's around 30s, anybody has a full profile ?

I thought his time had come and gone , he seemed to slip into obscurity when he went to japan , but he was quick in F3 and quick in Formula Nippon and does posses a good deal of talent , so i think he will do Ok at Jordan , as for possibly winning races , well we all know the Jordan probably wont do that this year and I dont know if ralph is capable but at least he has finally made it to F1 and I hope he grabs it with both hands.

This is the same Ralph from the JGTC correct? If so, then he was very good in that series. As a matter of fact it was pure bad luck that prevented him from running away with the title last year. I know that its GT cars vs openwheel but since he also has accolades in FNippon his skills speak for themselves.

I was thinking that 3 years is a long time to contract a rookie driver. But then again, you can ask Frentzen about EJ's habits when it comes to following contracts. I'm sure there is a performance clause in there as well.
I've haven't heard much of Firman before, but I wish him luck... |

Noticed no new sponsors on the Jordan backdrop, though B&H were more prominent, so I guess they will have more presence on the car this year.

Good for you Bosch! A lot more healthy !
I think Firman, can do well in F1. Having a experienced driver as Fisi, he can only improve. BTW, and the test driver role ? Who would be ? |

It is clear the EJ's biggest consideration for ANY driver this year was money, not his talent scouting. (I'm not trying to talk down Firman, by the way...)

Really for me is so good heard about Firman at Jordan.
I remember him well for his F.Nippon campaign: For 1998-2000 years he had the "handicap" to run in team Nova with G-Force chassises, which weren't so good as the Reynards. Despite that he was the only driver who managed to win that car in FN (Short Suzuka, last race of 1999). In 2001 he got the chance to enter in a title-contender team, Nakajima: on the start he delayed to fit in the team but he finished the season with two wins. In 2002 he was capable to fight with the reigning champion Satoshi Motoyama, and then he contended and finally won his FN title, the first since 1996. I'm waiting for his debut at Melbourne!!! |

http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/sport/story.jsp?story=375570 Looks like EJ may not be the majority shareholder anymore. Hope he sold out to firman sr not the property developer.

Congratulations to Ralph Firman for securing the drive with Jordan Grand Prix!
I don't know much about him, apart from the Formula Nippon reports I've read in the newsletter. So it will be interesting to see how he will perform. All the best to him! |
