Next year’s World Rally Championship calendar has been agreed by the FIA Rallies Commission and, as expected, includes several significant date changes.
The Safari Rally moves to a July slot from its traditional early spring date, while 2000 newcomer Cyprus moves back to June. The Corsica Rally and San Remo also swap in the order. April has been left completely blank, and there is growing speculation that the Network Q Rally may move from its traditional November finale date into that April slot – possibly as early as 2002. The MSA is said to be against the move on the grounds of tradition and prestige, but more in favour on marketing considerations. 2001 WORLD RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP Jan 19-21 Monte Carlo Rally (MC) Feb 9-11 Swedish Rally (S) Mar 9-11 Rally of Portugal (P) Mar 23-25 Catalunya Rally (E) May 4-6 Rally Argentina (RA) Jun 1-3 Acropolis Rally (GR) Jun 15-17 Cyprus Rally (CY) * Jul 13-15 Safari Rally (EAK) Aug 10-12 Rally Finland (FIN) Sep 21-23 New Zealand Rally (NZ) Oct 5-7 San Remo Rally (I) Oct 19-21 Corsica Rally (F) Nov 2-4 Rally Australia (AUS) Nov 23-25 Rally GB (GB) * Subject to observers report |
