Rumours? Well I've heard talk of new circuits. One was supposedly going to be at Snetterton but I've not heard anything confirmed. All I hope is that if there are new circuits that the powers that be take into consideration the spectators. Flat circuits are in my opinion hopeless - what is needed is a natural ampitheatre, such as Lydden or Brands. Rallycross races are short so you need to be able to see all or most of the circuit to appreciate the action. Its no good looking at cars on the opposite side of a flat circuit - there is no sense of perspective and so the spectacle is lost.

There's the new track at Newmarket - that's appeared on the calendar listed on the rallycross website.
New cars? Sellars clio - was at the Autosport show and should be out at Lydden on the 14th. Trevor Stretch - his minicross car was for sale on ebay - he's supposed to be getting an RX8 to run in modified (this year? Doubtful I'd have thought) Mike Turpin - Supposed to be going for a new shaped mini at somepoint. Paul? Buckmaster - Sticking a 2 litre lump in his nova. Dave Ward - new shape corsa (any more news on this) Pat Doran - sticking with the RS200 for now (possibly to be replaced later in the year - with what? 4x4 Fiesta?) Chris Evans - Astra supercar running by the end of the year. John McCluskey - Still running the 306 until it's sold - hopes to replace it with a 206 McCann - new engine in the Impreza. I'm sure someone must know a few more juicy rumours.... |

UDB - if I ever get to speak to "Rumour" I must give him a piece of my mind. The number of times "Rumour" has said that I too have been on a diet / given up drinking are beyond count.

Serious rumours though seem to suggest a number of new supercars being built, which are being kept very quiet. The word is that with the changes to weight/restricters a number of other manufacturers cars become viable, rather than only Ford being the competitive option.
Circuit wise, well the Snett thing was pure speculation, the new venue is Wildtracks-Newmarket as BertMk2 has pointed out. I've only seen the circuit from the road, but it is more like a number of the European circuits, rather than the fast circuits that dominate this country. Should but a premia on grip and handling of the cars. |

I heard a rumour about a Mk3 escort supercar but can't put any more detail to it than that (driver, engine etc).
Adrian Horsley was rumoured to be moving up to supercar but I don't know with which car or when. |

Adrian is supposed to be contesting the Northern Sports and Saloons this year in a Porsche but as with Adrian any thing can happen as he changes he mind like the wind.
I know its not a rumour but as Jonathan Plamers company has took over certain circuit and him competing in rallycross years ago maybe he might allow the british championship to run on some of their tracks as quick revenue Last edited by M.Lowe; 29 Jan 2004 at 23:00. |

Barrie - I'd heard some of those mentioned elsewhere (the squibb, Briggs, Gollop and Bourner rumours). Briggs has advertised his 6R4 and a Clio for sale in the motorsport news - any ideas?

Evans ran his Astra at Mondello at the weekend so I guess that could signal he'll use it all year.
If he does who'll drive the Micra? That's not just going to sit about unused surely? |

Terry Briggs, he bought 2 Clio Trophy's intended for himself and son Nick. Must have decided just to run one, Don't think he will be able to sell Metro to easy, certainly seen better days. The Micra is actually Tony Bardy's, I did hear it may be used in rallying next year if not rallycross, we will see.

I thought T Briggs was building a space frame clio 4wd and a 400bhp fwd clio for his son.
Why did Mike Manning not go to Ireland, is he just doing the British rounds. |

The micra was built to conform with rallying regulations so it's possible it'll go that way, bit of a shame if it does though. |

Well evans wont be doing any events in the astra according to chris himself, the only reason the astra was at mondello was becasue the micra is being rebuilt for the BRC.
apparetnly so anyway Mondello Pictures: http://www.rallycrossireland.com/ipw-web/gallery/ Click 2004 and mondello ! |

I wondered why the Lydden meeting is on Saturday. I know that the Sunday meetings can't start until late because of noise restrictions but with the small entry surely it won't be a problem. I am sure the number of spectators will be down as a result, who are after all helping to finance the meeting.
I understand that the entry fee has risen to £125. How many cars and spectators do you need to break even. |
