European Formula 3 Open 2009 (Spanish F3)
Stuff I receive now from GT Sport is headed "European Formula 3 Open" so I guess the final decision on a new name has been made and approved.
Anyway, for those that are interested, confirmed calendar as follows: VALENCIA May 02 - 03 JARAMA June 06 - 07 SPA-FRANCORCHAMPS June 27- 28 DONINGTON PARK July 04 - 05 MAGNY COURS September 19 - 20 MONZA October 03 - 04 JEREZ October 17 - 18 BARCELONA October 31 - November 01 Four weekends in Spain, four weekends across Europe. Almost all F1/GP2 tracks. Last edited by JohnMiller; 4 Feb 2009 at 21:59. Reason: Spelling! |

Very dissapointed to see Imola's April meeting gone, it could have been an attractive warm up for some drivers. On the other hand, Monza's "Spanish" date falls very conviniently a couple of weeks before the final Monza race of the Italian series. I would think "Spanish" teams will make some nice deals out of this |

Will only F3 miss Imola or also GT Open? |

That's right - and is why it is called the British International F3 Championship.

FIAT Powertrain vice-president comments that there is no dial now in place even if FIAT could agree to sign one in the future. Anyhow, he says, times are extremely tight to put everything in place for 2009 and suggeststo think about in 2010 trying to find a way to link the Spanish and the Italian Championships.

That link-up of Spanish and Italian series could very much affect British series I am affraid. Spanish series look good, if they can stay on low budgets after the link-up they will be threat...

Some interesting British sounding names amongst them, but none I'm familiar with. Anyone know anything about Colin Smith, Andrew Taylor, or Tom Brown? Or are these suspiciously anonymous names all pseudonyms??
Edit: well, bit of googling and there seem to be drivers by all those names in karting this decade (excuse my ignorance of the karting scene). Last edited by jondownunder; 23 Feb 2009 at 23:39. |

On 17th March the FIA World Council accorded the series FIA International Status and approved the name of European F3 Open.
