Training?

Anybody know when there will be any training in the South East?

I've got the required number of signatures and all I need is the training to upgrade from a trainee but there doesn't seem to be any training days listed on the volunteers in motorsport website for the South East.

aprescott has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!

I'm not sure why that makes British marshalling disorganised?

Training traditionally takes place in late January/early February of each year. This is a time of year when meetings are thin on the ground, making it easier for participants and trainers to attend. I also imagine that's a time of year where it is possible to secure circuit time/venue space more easily.

I would imagine the dates for the various clubs and regions will be circulated very shortly, we are still in October and many of us are still attending race meetings.

I'm sure in an ideal world there would be training sessions all year round, that would involve getting enough participants (I think some clubs have tried this without too much success?), trainers and venues and funding all of the sessions.

Young Piglet is absolutely correct in her analysis! It is early days yet, and I agree that Jan/Feb is the best time to get cheap, if not free Hospitality and Conference Suites and even a Circuit free of bookings. Limited Training is and has been carried out by some Clubs on a Sunday morning when start time is after 1200 hours, but that is more of an update type scenario.

I hope "Tubbylardo" is sure he has all the required signatures, as the criteria for 2008 has changed, and he may be o'k now, but short after he has attended his Training Day next year, and applies for his upgrade. I do not want to put a damper on a keen Marshal, but just double check with the Regional Grading Officer, (if a BMMC Member, or whatever other Club)

send "the pits!" a PM with details and I am sure he will blow a gasket then let you know what is required with regards the change over from old to new system.

afaik this years signatures are compatible with the new system and next year is different but i would assume that a training signature gained in January should count with this years signatures.

Check the BARC website for info regarding training. In January, BARC and BMMC join forces to hold a training day for all disciplines at Mallory Park. The dates will be published in newsletters and various websites, but as yet its a bit early. Hope this helps.
