Vintage racing and correct parts
After reading the rules of various historic/vintage racing i am curious about a few things- the car is a 1964 Volvo amazon 122
yes i will ask the tech inspectors and the marshalls, but i would like you input as well The rules state unless equipped i can not use Webers DCOE... i found 2 historic references to teams which use weber DCOE 42's and the volvo competition kit of 2.2 liters one was the Frankfurt Volvo of Germany team and the Ruddspeed team. and these (one of these teams, and it was an option for the 123 GT car) had a five speed volvo gear box. Now i can't find the volvo 'box and i can't find any where to rebuild my box original volvo 4 spd.... so i am using a T-5 with same ratios except the 5th which is unsuitable for racing unless it is highway sectioned.. i built the motor with the same specs as the frankfurt team Does this sound acceptable? or reasonable i won't have a particular advantage just a prepped car per specs of those years (1964-1966) |

I am in no way a Volvo specialist but I would have thought the Gearbox to be a bit of a grey area.As for the Webbers,I thought that you will need to get hold of the homologation papers before you go any further with the car.I would have thought that Volvo would have been using Webbers purely on the grounds that there were so many inlet manifolds available in period for this engine.

ah and can you point me to a place to get proper homologation papers?
It did not occur to me to gather the info... although it is readily available, i don't think the original ETCC FrankFurt Volvo's are around anymore |

I take it you are not in the UK,but you could still get the Papers from the MSA for a small fee.

As Peter says, Frank will most likely have a copy of the papers, the nmber you want is 1408 I think, possibly 1129 as well they are both 122's
I think the Ovlov did run DCOE's, and the same engine ran in a MArcos GT with them, 180 BHP is possible I think . . . there are 2 running in the UK, BSS has been out in one and JT now has the old Jim Prentice car which runs SU's now its reverted to 50's spec |

First question is does it have two or four doors-the homologated specification is different. The homologations are 1129 for the 1962-4 two door, 1408 for the 1965 two door and 1092 for the 1962 onwards four door.
I have all papers and will answer speciofic questions but I suspect the Webers were not an International option but only used in National competition |

oh well it is a two door, i under stand the frankfurt car, ran the etcc- so that would be international yes?
and there was a volve in Trans-Am it may have been a 142 however i have twin SU's but the manifold has crack horribly an dthe weber option is the same size as the Frankfurt car so a racing special, or replica would be choice to reproduce rather than an old car turned into a half broken race car |
