Tarquini returns with Alfa!

Tarquini returns!
ETCC 24/09/02

One of the most estimated Touring Car drivers ever, Gabriele Tarquini will make his return to the FIA European Touring Car Championship in Donington Park. This will also mark his return to Alfa Romeo after six years. For the two final meetings of the season, Tarquini will take the wheel of Romana Bernardoni’s car: the fourth 156 Gta run by Nordauto besides current Championship leader Fabrizio Giovanardi’s, current runner-up Nicola Larini’s and latest addition Roberto Colciago’s. A dream team committed to secure Alfa Romeo the Manufacturers’ Championship.

A former F1 driver, Tarquini drove Alfa Romeo works cars from 1993 to 1996 in the Italian and British championships and also in the 1996 FIA International Touring Car Championship. From 1997 he drove for Honda in the German and British championships. In the past season, at the wheel of a JAS Motorsport Honda Accord he was a strong title contender in the FIA European Super Touring Championship, finishing third to Giovanardi and Larini with nine race wins. Tarquini is also a favourite of British fans, as he won the BTCC title for Alfa in 1994; his best result in Donington Park was a win in the 18th round of the 2000 BTCC.

Wow, Tarquini in an Alfa, I hope that's good. Somehow Tarquini never seemed quite as sensational in the Honda as he was in the Alfa.

Hopefully he'll spearhead the Alfa UK return to the BTCC. He'd be an ideal team leader.

Yeah, you had me going there for a while also JMeisnner! Initially, I thought by reading the thread title, Tarquini was going to be the lead driver for a BTCC return. Doesn't Honda have to give permission before Tarquini could race for Alfa?

Great news for Tarquini.

I suppose this means he hsa finished with Honda then? Or have they loaned him for these races?
