Totally agree, and make Murray Walker a knight while she's at it.

You could sign the petition, or you could go further and actually do something. Why not nominate John Surtees? To do so you need to write to
Ceremonial Secretariat Cabinet Office 35 Great Smith Street LONDON SW1P 3BQ The nomination form and pack is here: http://www.honours.gov.uk/upload/ass...ation_pack.pdf Or if you would like to do it in Welsh: http://www.honours.gov.uk/upload/ass...ation_pack.pdf Getting that is the easy bit, as it is all explained on this website: http://www.honours.gov.uk/nominate.aspx |

I dunno, Queeny might be too busy making our former PM John Howard a member of the order of the garter.

added my name to the petition, after some of the boring people they knight Surtees should be top of the list.

If you want someone to be knighted you have to put their name forward as the link above says - a petition is not needed.

There are more important people in British Sport to knight other than Surtees although he is in top ten waiting and contiue to wait.Problem is that 99% of British politians know nothing about sport or it seems these days not much about anything else either

Yeah at least they have acknowledged our petition, and given him something. Althought i think a Knighthood is in order, if someone like Alex Ferguson can be given one then John Surtees needs 2 !! Glad to see Andy Priaulx got an MBE too

Reviving this old thread, as another petition is online to enoble John Surtees.
See: https://www.petitionbuzz.com/petitions/sirjohnsurtees It has a long way to go! The best idea might be to follow Adam43's advice and to nominate the man. Details of how to in post No.4 John |

Previously learnt that a petition damages the individual chance of a knighthood, maybe good intentions but following the system has a much better chance.

There's a petition going anyway: https://www.petitionbuzz.com/petitions/sirjohnsurtees
Over 500 signatures in a week isn't bad, but the target of 10,000 sounds a bit optimistic. |

strider, that IS the one I revived this thread about - see previous page.
And on that page, the link to 'How to nominate someone for an honour' is broken. Here's the current link: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Governme...dals/DG_067917 John |

Apologies for the duplication. At least we have the same objective. I don't know if these petitions do any good or not, but surely they can do no harm.

If Her Majesty was going to Knight John Surtees he would have been aware of it at least two months ago so all this last minute petition signing is pointless.

Most people know the procedure. There was never any thought that something would happen on January 1st. If they're targeting 10.000 signatures, they must be hoping something will happen in 12 months' time, so the petition is not pointless.

Nothing shows your conviction and belief in something like clicking a few times on a website petition. Apart from voting by telephone on X-factor.
