German CART team!
A German touring car team ae planning to set up a CART team in time for next season. Also know as phoenix in the DTM, JAG Racing in the V8 Star and PZK in the Porsche Supercup are hoping to raise CART's profile in German. They hope to run a German and a European driver (Andre Lotterer perhaps?) Just what CART needs, new blood! We'll show the IRL yet!

I believe Lotterer is running at Mexico City with JAG Racing as a partner to Coyne, which would give excellent cred to this story. I'm all for it and hope to see them on the grid!

Good news, spark up interest in Germany may lead to another race there too.

CART on the Nordschliefe. It'll never happen, but it'd be the most incredible thing any of us will have every seen on a race track.

Is there any chance of the Eurospeedway being used for CART again? ASCAR used it after it went bankrupt didn't they?
Anyway, great news about the German team, maybe we can get some good German drivers into CART there (no more Arnd Meiers!) |

I remember him! Here you go: http://www.cart.com/Drivers/Performa...p?DriverID=195
He had that yellow car sponsored by the German brewery and was always last place. I remember someone in Toronto, seeing his car go by a few seconds after the 2nd last place car went by remark "ah, isn't that cute." Best finish was 10th... |

That was back when Lola only had his car in the field. How times have changed.

Haven't the Germans always had a fleeting interest in the series in the past few years, which is why CART went to Lausitz in the first place?
More teams the better, anyway, and European interest should always be welcomed. |

cart on the Nordschleife? would be quite funny, but it´s really not possible... anyway, they should put the Lausitzring back on the calendar! Eurospeedway is saved for at least two years, and they hope to sell it to investors after this 2 years! All the other races (DTM; V8Star) will all be on the Lausitzring, so why not CART? And what shall we do with such a new oval? Bring the ChampCars back, make good advertisement and many visitors will come! Well, who could be their drivers? what about lotti and manning? that would be could for the Rockingham race, too. @f1manoz: about the german interest: well, the motorsport fans know it and like it, but if you ask people who aren´t real motorsport fans, you will get funny answers, examble: eeeeehm, chamcar? that´s this touring cars running on ovals, aren´t they? but people who know it really like it... |

Arnd Meier was not that bad... but probably he only remembered when he spun and jumped a guardrail in Elkhart Lake'97...

I don't know - Alex Zanardi sure remembers him.
I still remember seeing Alex charging through the paddock at Rio 1998 looking for Meier. When he found him, he had to be physically dragged away by an official. I thought we were going to have a Piquet-Saladbar, or at least a hands around the throat job. This was after Meier (a lap down) had baulked Zanardi going into turn 4, allowing Greg Moore in 2nd, to sweep round the outside of both of them to win. I remember in an interview after, Arnd said something like, "I'm glad people came, because I'm not a very good boxer." |

I loved that move by Greg! Yes, he was lucky to find himself in a position to make that move, but when he did it was daring, bold and actually got the attention of Frank Williams! (That was Frank's memory of Greg)

Ohh, Meier was an important part in probably the best move in the 5 years of racing at Rio...!

He certainly was, because if he wasn't there, Greg would have got nowhere near Zanardi.
What a shame we didn't get to see more of these two going head to head. Some of my best memories were Rio and the two superspeedways in 1998 with Moore and the red cars duking it out. It just occured to me that the last end of race sprint at Fontana was also won by Jimmy Vasser in '98. But I think that was only one lap. And what a lap it was! Geez, I've covered some ground in this post. Um, yes - a German CART team would be good. |

Christian Danner drove for Euromotorsport a decade ago and was'nt too shabby given the equipment he had at his disposal.
