How good do we think he was/is, then? After all, he could easily have been lead driver for a Dome-Mugen-Honda F1 team in '97.

He was always spectacularly fast, but never seemed to get the results he should have. I always suspected that maybe he was a bit hard on the machinery. He should have won at Birmingham, for instance, leading by miles from Eric van der Poele when the engine broke after a small piece of debris punctured his radiator.
