STCC: The progress of the new Audi A4

The progress for Audi
STCC 10/03/03

There have been alot of speculations of Audi's progress with developing new cars for the STCC. The Audi team, KMS, confirms that they will have two 260 BHP Audi A4's on the grid ready at the STCC premiere for Fredrik Ekblom and Tommy Kristoffersson. From the second race at Mantorp a third car will be brought in for Tobias Johansson. The future for the fourth car is still uncertain since the team does not want to comment about this. The team has still barely driven the cars, but the team boss Tommy Kristoffersson is optimistic and is having a cautious attitude for STCC 2003:

"During the last four years we have won the STCC title three times. 2003 will be a learning year for us. It is a new car and our goal is the podium," Tommy said. Audi Germany does also have faith in the STCC and KMS with Head of Audi Sport Dr Wolfgang Ullrich having a say about it on the Audi international home page: "With seven manufacturers involved, the STCC's entry list is one of the strongest of all touring car series worldwide. We hope that KMS Motorsport will be as successful with the new A4 as they’ve always been.”

Latest update, still no pics though, will come after the Swedish motor show in Stockholm.

First shakedown for Audi
STCC 19/03/03

Fredrik Ekblom has done the first shakedown with the new STCC Audi A4. The shakedown took place at a large asphalt area outside the Audi factory in Germany. "It has gone fine, but it is too early to say anything," Fredrik commented. During this test the race engine wasn't fitted and won't run until sometime in April on a real racetrack.

So the car is being built in Germany and not in Sweden by KMS?

It is Audi Germany that builds the car, KMS will do the running, testing and continued development of it.

Sad news:

Audi delayed
STCC 02/04/03

Audi announced earlier that they would show their racecar at the Stockholm Motor Show tomorrow (Thursday). Though now they have announced that due to delays in the development progress the premiere of the car is moved. No date is set for when they will show the car, so stay tuned!

BSTR should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
If those cars are prepared in Germany they must enter STCC as Super 2000 cars instead of National Super 2000?

Would they be more competitive if prepared according NS2000 technical rules? Or is there actually anymore any real advantage in NS2000 compared to S2000 since sequential gearboxes are nowadays allowed in S2000 also?

No they are entered as National Super 2000 cars, I don't know where it differs from FIA Super 2000 cars exactly.

Since no National Super 2000 car is fully completed yet it is very hard to say anything about the exact differances, advantages, disadvantages etc.
