I heard he did something with CART and V8 Supercars a little while back but I don't know what he does now and quite frankly, who cares?

I do. (that's why i started the thread) I don't think he's doing a series this year, so i wonder if anyone knows anything about his plans.

Angling for an endurance ride at Sandown and Bathurst. Hasn't been picked up yet AFAIK. Also may likely appear at the Bathurst 24 hr in November.

I heard (and this is only what i heard, nothing more than that) that he wanted to come back to F1, but would only do so with a front end of the grid team to show his talents better than he could in a Minardi.
Guess we will never see Alex in F1 again! |

Why? I don't think Yoong is as bad as some say, but he isn't really F1 material and he certainly isn't Williams material!

Oh come on, the guy was a rent-a-driver, pure and simple. There's no way he would have got into F1 on talent alone.......

I don't disagree. Relative to F1, he wasn't very good, but I can imagine him in another series, that's all.
May be being slightly generous! Last edited by krt917; 21 Apr 2004 at 13:01. |

Mr Yoong could outrun the illustrious talents of Mr Pantano and Mr Baumgartner without question!

Yeah, but the splitting of the African Rift Valley can outrun Baumgartner.

All 3 seem to be more appropriately timed with a sundial rather than a stopwatch.

There's a big rumour that he'll replace Huissman in the other BTCC Proton this season!

I think he did the Porsche Carrera Cup at Macau recently, and is also doing pre-race analysis as "guest expert" for Star Sports... kind of funny..i wonder if he knows what's he talking now...
Unfortunately, i don't think he's F1 material...He may be a decent lower-formula or Touring car racer, and be a national winner in Malaysia but really the switch to the international scene is way beyond reach, totally impossible if not for his links and help and sponsorship from Malaysia authorities/comapanies.. |

As for the Bathurst 24hr, he went last year and enjoyed the (few) laps he had there. The car had gremlins and he didn't have a chance to shine. The same team have a M3 GTR 5.0 for the race this year. could be fun.

Compared to Webber's other team-mates, he didn't do badly.

Great question, I doubt he has grown much so I would put him up to about 1.79m
