Exactly how does qualifying work?
OK guys,
I have a basic understanding of the Indy 500 qualifying process. Or at least I thought I did.... I realise that pole day was yesterday. One at a time, etc, you can wave your lap off and try again. But, how many shots do you have to qualify?? How many times can you wave off? Whats the deal with qualifying today? I have been listening to the WIBC webcast and the way it appears to me is there is open practice, until someone wants to qualify, then they are all brought in and that person goes out for his laps. Is that correct? Is the order pre-determined or can any car (that hasn't qualified) just line up and say, everyone off, its my turn? |
