Super marshals
Last year Ernie Preece was made chief marshal at Pembrey. At a recent visit to Mallory I was amazed to learn that after starting the 2004 season as a course marshal he had progressed through observer to chief observer in half a season and now is listed as deputy chief marshal at GOODWOOD. All this after just 5 years marshalling. Well some people have to go through formal grading processes but now it seems that some gat catapaulted to the top of the ladder forgetting the formalities.

If he's good enough and can do / wants to do the job, fair play to him.
AFAIK, there's no grading process to get to chief marshal, rather a case of wanting / being able / being volunteered to do the job (Stone-Kicker or Mr Mitchell may be able to comment better) Al. |
