He had done a 1:19.8 earlier in the day, comparing with Alonso's 1:19.7 of yesterday.
Obviously we don't know about fuel levels, and setups or whatever, but it's a good start. |

Todays times. Granted, the page is in German, but I think times are internationally readable. |

He did 70- laps and was slowest today i believe?
But it was a respectable time, we don't know about any of the , so on face value it's looking OK!ata yet. |

Almost one second slower than Alonso who's been driving the car all year. We obviously don't know fuel levels and everything but it's fair to say it's an okay time.

I'd say it was a fair time. The report I read said they didn't work on setups and he was looking for a comfortable seating position. We shall see what tomorrow brings.

1 sec slower than Alonso... i dont think JV would be running heavier fuel loads or different set-ups as hed first want to get acclimitised to the car...
so id say in terms of pace thats where he is at the moment a sec slower than ALonso... ofcourse it was only his first day |

I think its fair to say JV must have tried all fuel loads since he completed 70 laps - roughly GP distance.

What a great result for JV, personally I'm stoked he's on the money and with a lil luck, will drive in China. It'll certainly make the last 3 a lil more interesting. No drive for over a year and he immediately sets a respectable time.........to all you JV doubters, stick that in ya pipe and smoke it.

For the benefit of an Englishman Alan. Please explain the term STOKED. This is the second time in two weeks i have come across this term. The first was when congratulating Jonny Reid on his fine win in F3000 at Donnington. My only recolection of anything like this was my granny was STOKING the fire

I'm not sure if he'll be driving the Renault for the last three races, however I think that his biggest challenge will be sorting out the Michelin tyres. He has never used them on a race car in F1, and as we all know, tyre evaluation isn't done overnight. Where the hell is BB king when you need him? Tye |

^^^^ We use the word 'stoked' here in North America as well. It just means your very excited or pumped up (the adrenaline is flowing).

IMHO, we can't say whether Villeneuve's time is good or bad. We don't know anything about the test. Maybe he was given light fuel and new tyres? Maybe he was fueled up and had old tyres?
Either way saying it is great or rubbish is making an assumption. IMHO. |
