Duratec 2.0 or 2.3?
I wonder what engine is better for track dya 7 based model.
Is it the 2.0 or the 2.3? are they the same engine? I mean is the weight and the block equal? and which one has better potential to be tuned for higher out put? Any point of view? |

It really depends on what you want and when you say 7 based model I assume that you mean Lotus7 caterham 7? so naturally with little tuning the 2.3 will have more power Not sure on the weight though I know someone in the UK with a 2.3 dura with 296 BHP pumping out of it IT IS MAD!!! he runs it in a westfield chassis on a personal scale I would go for the 2.0 brillant engines and a guess here but it is probally easier to find parts for them as a opposed to the 2.3?

Thanks Vauxy,
The parts issue was something I overlooked. Yes I mean by 7 based car a Westfield, DAX Rush or a RAW Striker or any of the other quality re-makes. |

2.0ltr or 2.3ltr
I will add my rubbish/confusing opinion SORRY maybe partly relevant in some irrelevant way..err..
My father inlaws caterham was a 2.3ltr duratec but seemed dull? Torquey but seemed smooth and not fierce (260bhp?) Can not explain that - I was maybe pushing the wrong pedal -as he was in the passenger seat. It did still pull well where drag can effect acceleration. It was clearly set up (soft) for road use as it had some body roll round a round about?? - maybe he was lying and it had a fiat ono engine " what a waste. " It was suposed to be top spec. Although the 1.8 tuned Caterham thing is meant to be quick too? Strangely I recently went in an old stripped out MK1 escort with a 2.0ltr zetec with bike throttle bodies and aftermarket ecu and was very pleasently suprised. "I want one" Especailly as it would have been much heavier? was a cheap job too. I think the 2.3 bit is not really worth taking on board because the 2.3 in a light weight car should have been evil... The fact is the 2.0ltr was still mental in a heavier car.. I believe the 2.3 duratec (mountune) is a modified 2.0ltr duratec? Could well be wrong.? The 2.0ltr duratecs can be tuned quite highly anyway, more so than the zetecs... so a turn key supplier/tuning company claim. Not an expert on hill climbs - maybe the torque is more important for hills? and might be worth the extra weight verse ons circuits high entry speed (understeer) front end, maybe? If you were circuit racing I think busa /turbo might be the way to go (under 400KG) - but higher maintenance than a car engine...probably not so good up hill or with passengers? Sounds like fun anyway - Visit to ICC at Gnejna - Malta NOV 2010 First visit to hill climb this year - winter sucks ( LOL) KD Last edited by teamKDRACING; 9 Dec 2010 at 15:16. |
