Edmonton should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Which Was Louder?

The 917 or the 512?

The 512, I'm pretty sure. Certainly when you are near them and they are being started up it is the 512!

Just from experience at goodwood I'd say the 512 is louder.

Never herd the 512 or 917 in real life. But I do know that the Panoz LMP-1s were soo deep rumbling loud that it rattled your heart when it went by and the Dome S101 Judd V-10s were soo high pitch loud that it felt like your ears were going to bleed when it passed on the straights!!

I've never been able to compare the two sounds, but generally, I remember watching Le Mans from the restaurants at night back in the mid to late 80s and you certainly knew when those Mazda's were coming........

Yes, everytime we speak about engines noise, we tend to talk about the Mazda's sound. Not necessarely the most beautiful but certainly the loudest, with 2, 3 or 4 rotors (especially in the LM pits straight !). However, it doesn't surpass the harmonic quality of a big V12 or flat 12 : Daytona 365GTB4, 512M, JaguarXJR, BMW...
