SPEED Channel will feature two-and-a-half hours of coverage from each event...

Champ Car has added another race to its network television package for 2005. NBC will broadcast the May 21 event in Monterrey, Mexico. The event will move to Saturday from its original Sunday date.

As announced previously, Champ Car fans in Europe will be treated to live coverage of every 2005 series event on Eurosport and the new Eurosport 2 network.
Half of the 14-race schedule will be on network, including the first six consecutively. Of the seven races being broadcast by Speed, only four will be live.

I'm quite happy with this arrangement. Now I'm curious who will be in the broadcast booths...

Good question indycool. If other events are added they may become subject to the HDNet only broadcast, or perhaps tape delayed on Speed.

Awesome, Now I'm hoping for the qualifying coverage we use to have. I can remember the good old days back in 2002 when I stumbled onto CART because it seemed to be on all the time on SPEED.

No word about the qualifying coverage that we became used to...

And no word about Canadian coverage...

Because I get Speed, I hope that they dump TSN, thereby dumping the blackouts!

This is some good news for the series. From a Canadian perspective I doubt this will change anything unless Speed shows qualifying.

I suspect there will be at least one, if not two more races added to the '05 schedule and they will most likely be broadcast on Speed.....tape delayed of course. At least 4 out of the 7 races on Speed will be broadcast live which is very positive news.

The SPEED coverage has always been top-notch. I suppose they will be doing the work for the network broadcasts as well. Here's hoping either TSN steps up in Canada or drops it all together and thus giving us full SPEED.
Great News! Bring on Long Beach!

There's also going to be some pre-race and post-race coverage as well, which is a big bonus.

Oh really, planning on buying race director are you?

Either that or you have some fancy large satallite or something, because I hope you're not expecting anything but dissapointment from Eurosport...

But alas, another thread hi-jacked by Eurosport depression

Of the races not live on Speed, one is in the wee hours from Australia, one from Las Vegas on a Saturday night, and one is from the don't-know-what-timezone-but-it-must-be-big Korea....

......wait a second, Korea? When did that get formally announced?

Good news, but the timed racing is still a nessasary evil to achive this.
One step at a time I guess. All this was better than I expected anyway.

I hope Race Director will be available again -- as TSN will again put the racing on at 2:00 a.m. on Tuesday or Noon on Monday. Then they will say nobody watches it and drop it.

Unfortunately I tend to agree with your gloomy forecast. IMO it's Molstar's fault. F1 races can be shown on Speed and TSN at the same time without blackout. The only difference is Molstar, presumably they're protecting their advertising interests by blacking out Speed, Spike, etc. Molstar would be far smarter to try to get the races broadcasted live on Global, CBC, CTV (which owns TSN) or Sportsnet. I really think CBC is theoretically the best candidate because they have nothing on and are gov't owned and CC is an significant national pride/unity provider. Global would be if good too because they have rights to the Canadian races and did a good job in 2004.

Strange...
Speed is always blacked out for me whenever TSN is showing F1...

I think we automatically thought that tape delay was bad (at least I did), but the three races listed as tape delayed are ones that would get better ratings if they were tape delayed. Having network coverage of the first 6 races makes sense, but why did they pick Montreal? I think Americans would be more likely to watch a local race on TV than any other event. Wouldn't it make sense to cover the American races on an American network? It's well known that more Canadians watch the Canadian races.

enemy-ace: Are you pirating DirectTV or something? I've had races blacked out on both Rogers and ExpressVu. I suppose you could have Look cable/antenna?
