Mobile speed camera's will be out in force in the surrounding area!

Along with the local plod!

Quite correct! but just cause somebody maybe speeding does not mean that they are putting others at risk by doing it!

I support the use of camera's in places like near schools in town and city centre's!

To put them in a layby out in the middle of nowhere is just another way of the local plod ripping off the already hard done by motorist!

I suppose you are one of those who would support that are you????

In wiltshire we have more dedicated traffic police than 90% of the uk and we are only a small county our police force is a disgrace.And i agree with gixxer riding fast doesnt mean you are putting others at risk,its all to support the cheif superintendent and his bloated pay check!!

This 'layby in the middle of nowhere' will be supporting a much larger amount of traffic than usual on that weekend, which increases the danger that anyone speeding could hurt someone else in the process. And don't forget that the average road accident of any kind costs the taxpayer hundreds of thousands of pounds - the cost to society of dangerous driving and riding is not covered by taxes.

Absolutely BOtS - and I am certain that not a person on this forum would object to a crackdown on dangerous riding or driving, as opposed to simply fast riding or driving. Some of the most dangerous things I have seen on the road have been done slowly...

I've always said it's the people who drive too slow cause most accidents. I've never (touching the nearest piece of wood) had an accident on the road through going fast.

I see we're back to the Speed Bad/Speed Kills mantra that has caused people to look at their speedo rather than the road, therefore making the risk of accidents increase.

Speed cameras are in the main the wrong solution to excessive speed on the road. They tend to be used as a way of getting cash in to the County coffers as the motorist doesn't tend to fight back.

Speed is a contributory factor to an accident, but speed alone does not cause accidents. Poor education/lack of observation/poor control/weather all pay a part in what happens. More money should be spent on education rather than punishment for a few miles an hour over the limit - Inteligent Policing it used to be called.

oh and mr boots how often do you keep to the speed limits without taking your eyes off the road that's exactly what camera's make you do look down for that split second........and oops bang oh dear your right up someone's arse!!!!!
