DIY Garages
Not entirely sure if this is the place for this, or if it should go into road car - if it should, move it.
Does anyone know of a garage where you can take your car to work on it yourself? somewhere with tools to hire, lots of space etc. |

here's a french version.
http://www.springwise.com/newbusinessideas/o-garage.htm http://babelfish.altavista.com/babelfish/tr They also have a mechanic on site to advise customers on the best way to proceed with repairs, and do courses in car maintance for beginners. now if only someone could set up one of these in the uk. well preferably lots of them! |

Such places do pop up from time to time, but they never seem to last long! A quick Yahoo search listed one in Aberdeen, but the link just gave a 404 error message.
I have a vague recollection that one of the big companies, Halfords or similar, was planning such a service, but I can't find any reference to it. I suspect that, by the time you've covered all the costs, the rate you'd have to charge the punters just doesn't make it wothwhile. (Edit)While I was typing that, grandslammer posted his reply. Wonder how much they charge? |

The french version charges 6 euros a half hour, or 10 euros for a full hour... but they sell parts as well.
depending on cost of rent etc. I should think it would be possible to set up for under £30,000 - but don't hold me to that. By the way, the second link in my first post should have been ... http://babelfish.altavista.com/babel...r%2findex.html Last edited by The STIG; 19 Jan 2006 at 15:51. Reason: added link wot works. |
