Top Hat Regs & CTCRC regs. (Spin off from Mallory Park thread)
I have it on good authority that Daffin's Capri (Top Hat, Mallory) was not running Dunlop D84 tyres (the specified tyre) and he was running triple carbs (a group 2 mod), which would explain why he was a second quicker than my time last year.
I'm beginning to think that its not worth rebuilding my car to the regs if Julius isn't going to enforce them. Last edited by John Turner; 19 Oct 2006 at 15:27. |

Top Hat Regs & CTCRC regs. (Spin off from Mallory Park thread)
Quote:
I bloody well hope they do read it. He ran that set up complete with front chin spoiler and boot "ducktail" at Spa. He's not a bad bloke but if he wants to run modified then he really needs to build a proper Group 2 replica. Seems to me that he's keen to beat me yet can't do it within the regs. What it is to be a target.
Incidently I've been contacted by a company asking if I'm interested in having a Cologne Capri replica built. I am but I don't have that kind of dosh sadly. |

Hello Peter .. Have to admit having a look round at the cars at Mallory in the Groovy baby race and raced with them myself the general feeling is "Anything goes " We have tried to build our 2002 to the CTCC regs and its not going to get anywhere near some of them motors !!

On a good note , The old man spoke to Jenny and she said that there will be more british rounds for Top Hat next year , So maybe if the classes could be made clearer it maybe good, Have to admit I really like the format & and generally the whole day experence.

Peter why not come back racing with the CTCRC, I will fight that allowing larger diameter wheels tooth and nail as this is one of the rulings that started the rot in Modprods. Bigger rims, means more expensive wheels and tyres and must have massive brakes, ever seen a Mk 2 Escort on 18 inch rims, it looks sad and thats what started to appear in the ModProds. I have spent a fair bit of time and mpney squeezing the biggest caliper and disc into a 15 inch rim that I can get and I would not be happy if they changed that as I only finished the work a couple of hours ago!

Al, Its this sort of situation that set,s the rot up in most series. These people come along and want this thar changed for thier own advantages, which over a period of time just grows until the cars become to expensive to build, then the champioship dissapears completely. If the current specs are good enough for some,!!etc, etc:

Just to squash some of the tosh above.
Nobody has lobbied the CTCRC for bigger wheels in period. We are considering letting the older cars that enter Pre-93 races use larger diameter rims, so that they can take advantage of newer list rubber at sensible prices. |

What John has explained makes sense and it was only in the pre 93's not the Historics so no problem (previous comments withdrawn!). We were also discussing a compromise re-big brakes but thats John's decision.
BTW Alan Daffin's car has popped up here! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Ford-capri-rac...QQcmdZViewItem |

Question,
Does that mean that the older cars would need to carry different wheels and brakes for each championship entered? Forgive me but if so that's just plain short sighted. The reason that older cars are allowed into newer category races is to ensure the grids are filled (no problem with that) but what seems to be suggested is that the older cars will be limited to those newer categories thus reducing the grids in the more established championships. Al, I don't have the time to concentrate on a championship. I was going to rejoin the club this year but I saw some of the cars at Donington last season with bodywork cut to give more airflow etc. Last edited by Peter Mallett; 16 Oct 2006 at 12:11. |

If they want to move to the newer category permanently, I guess that they could fit bigger brakes, but nobody I have spoken to wants to do that as it would render their car ineligible for the period championship. |

BTW.
I edited the "plain daft". Apologies. That's as it has always been and I'd have no problem. Your initial post led me to beleive otherwise. Fair enough thanks. |

not too many takers on it though!! but if you want a laugh take a look at some of the questions and answers on the ebay ad. lot of people out there really beleive a noisy exhaust and a bit of tape on the lights makes a race car....

LoL
He tells me that he's got the original Brut Capri. BTW that car won't be sold with its Spa & Mallory winning triple Carbs. Laughably he told me that an RS3100 is a group 1 car. Last edited by Peter Mallett; 19 Oct 2006 at 04:04. |

It'll need a fair bit of modification, the gearbox and engine mountings don't match the 3.0 litre.
