Silverstone Stowe circuit
Hi chaps
I'm going to be doing the CTCRC single seater Stowe race in August and was wondering if anyone has got some suggestions for gear ratios? I've got a Van Diemen Formula Vauxhall Junior and I've got a decent selection of ratios. The last time I ran there was 4 or 5 years ago in a FF1600 doing a sprint and can't remember what I used then. Given the tight timetable on the day, I don't want to be messing about changing ratios when I'm there, so even an idea of the kind of maximum speeds people are getting would help. Thanks in advance. |

Sorry, not sure about the ratios but you are right about the timetable being tight. The last time I was there, by the time we had finished one race & were back in the paddock it was getting on for time to form up again for the next race. Just about time to refuel between races and that was it. Good fun, though & made a pleasant change from the hours of hanging about at "normal" meetings.

I have only raced there once and although I did win the class it was overgeared. I just about managed to change to a lower diff between races, and although I won again I was about a second or so slower ! Its a funny little track with tight coners and not a lot of room to overtake.

And unusually as I found out the other day it runs anti clockwise so nearly all the corners are left handers, I may do if for a bit of fine tuning and fettling and to be the resident mobile chicane.

Thanks for the input chaps - I'm thinking I need to gear the car for about 100/105 along the main straight and use 4 gears rather than the 3 I seem to use everywhere else at the moment.
I've done a couple of Monoposto rounds so far this year, but my budget was tighter than I thought but I can afford a couple of cheap rounds doing something like this. The speed events i've been doing cost pretty much the same and get about 4mins on track if your lucky. I'd like to get my A licence sooner rather than later as it means I don't have to get a Race B & a Speed A next year - just a tightwad I know |

In a formula ford 1600, I only ever used 2nd and 3rd on that track. 3rd along the two straights and 2nd in the twisty bits. Speed wise you should just touch over 100 on the straights.
