Best Television coverage will go to The Ten Network
Best Round will go to Adelaide or maybe AVESCO will give it to them selves for the Grand Finale??? Thats my guess anyways! |

But I can't wait till they read the nominees for "Champion Driver of 2004".
Oh the suspense............ Btw, the 2004 Australian Motor Sport Awards and the V8Supercar Awards (the televised one) are two different things. |

Marcos would have to get Champion driver of 2004.
If only the Gold Star series or F4000 was strong enough to compete. |

From our friends and RaceNews.... released it seems after the embargo
AVESCO 10 Dec 2004 Ambrose takes prestigous Barry Sheene Medal (as received) Marcos Ambrose’ and Stone Brothers Racing’s domination of the V8 Supercar Championship Series was further reinforced at tonight’s prestigous Gala Awards Dinner at the Gold Coast Convention Centre. Ambrose, who secured the 2004 V8 Supercar Championship Series in the BigPond Grand Finale, won the coveted Barry Sheene Medal for his outstanding leadership, personality, fan appeal and sportsmanship. A team of 14 panellists from the major metropolitan media, motorsport magazine, former drivers and Network Ten commentators voted at every round of the championship to award the medal that honours the former Motorsport legend and V8 Supercar commentator. It was the second year Ambrose has won the medal after its inception in 2003 following the passing of Sheene. Ambrose accepted the Medal from Stephanie Sheene, wife of the late Barry Sheene. “Barry was the quintessential champion who personified what motor racing and life in general should be all about,” AVESCO Chairman Tony Cochrane said. “He was a unique character, a great mate to all in the championship and will never be forgotten.” Ingall was presented with his award for finishing second in the championship while Holden driver Jason Bright accepted his award for finishing third behind the Stone Brothers pair. Ambrose’ team Stone Brothers Racing completed another quinella following the clinching of second place in the championship by Russell Ingall in taking the 2004 Champion Team of the Year Award. Dick Johnson Racing’s Warren Luff won the Mike Kable Rookie of the Year Award for his debut season in the V8 Supercar Championship Series in which he finished 14th, ahead of some more season campaigners. Kmart Racing’s Greg Murphy and Rick Kelly were honoured for the second successive Bathurst victory while Mark Skaife, despite a poor season by his own admission, took the award for the most pole positions in 2004. Despite Ford’s domination of the year through Stone Brothers Racing, Holden won the Champion Manufacturer Award for the most event victories while the Holden Racing Team won best presented and the People’s Choice award for the Most Popular team. Skaife was the Most Popular Personality. Young rising star Andrew Jones, who will race fulltime with Garry Rodgers Motorsport in the Championship next year, was duly recognised for winning the 2004 Konica Minolta Championship. The inaugural Bartercard Miss V8 Supergirl Renee Maurer was also introduced as the 2005 Face of the Series. Former greats Bob Morris and Fred Gibson were inducted into the Hall of Fame, joining Colin Bond, Peter Brock, Dick Johnson, Alan Moffat and Ian ‘Pete’ Geoghegan on the list of Australian Motorsport legends. All Ford fans will remember Gibson with great pride. He was the man, with Harry Firth, who gave the Falcon its first victory in the Bathurst 500 in 1976. He jumped the fence to help Mark Skaife to in 1990, 1991 and 1992, including wins on the mountain in 1991 and 1992. He also helped Skaife to championship victory in 1994 with the Holden Racing Team. Gibson was also instrumental in the 1999 Bathurst victory of Greg Murphy and Steven Richards. Arguably one of the country’s greatest privateers, Morris loved nothing more than beating the more powerful factory backed teams. His Torana XU1 was legendary in the 1970s under the sponsorship of Ron Hodgson. Morris’ greatest moment was at Bathurst in 1976 when he and co-driver John Fitzpatrick nursed their struggling car through the last few corners for one of the greatest victories at the great race. In 1978 he led Peter Brock by four points into the last round but Brock stole the show and the following year did the same … but this time Morris sealed the championship. Morris finished his career in 1984 with eight race wins, including four in a single season, for a total of 24 podium finishes. The Gala Dinner hosted the heavyweights of Australian Motorsport, every V8 Supercar driver, team owners, the AVESCO Board, business identities, leading media and political dignitaries. What a load of s*** that HRT winng the best presented, obliviosly that AVSECO have there head in the sand, the HRT was one of the worst looking cars on the track, even PWR should have won the award before HRT.
Does this go to show that HOLDEN run AVESCO and CAMS. |

Best presented is interesting in the context of Mr Kelly's additional wiring feature

I don't take any notice of awards anyway. Who really cares who is the most popular driver or team. If they were achievement awards for the best team and driver it might mean a bit more.

People stop the winging and just enjoy Ambrose's championship win. There are 2 manufacturers remember, so Ford can't win everything.

It's a Gold Logie. A popularity contest. Treat it with the same contempt.

So what did we think of the awards broadcast?
It seemed to have been chopped up a lot, with presenters ignored (Timbo was to present the ATCC trophy but we didnt see it) while Mr Stone apparently had something to say (and we didnt see that either....) I shouldnt think that broadcast will be in line for a boradcast award |

Missed it. There was racing on a Brisbane International Speedway. Talking about racing is nice, but it isn't racing.

V8 Supercar Awards
Did anyone else find these awards bland and frankly very boring. The only surprises for me was hearing that holden got the manufacturers award. But, as I said, i found it boring and hopefully they can snap things up next year.

Typical of AVESCO pushing the home of motorsport's buttons, Bill Woods was as boring as MC as a f**t in a elevator. What Aussie Bernie wanted to go to air did, and ch10 kiss his behind.
Were was Mr Ross Stone.??????????????????????????????????????????????? Aussie Bernie award -10 for enterainmnet. |

I thought the V8 awards were appalling myself.
Like many others I would have thought that coming 1-2 in the main Championship with 6 round wins and coming 1-2 in the Development Series with 5 round wins would have given you the "Champion Manufacturer of the Year" award. Was there another V8Supercar Championship held this year that I was aware of? Maybe "Holden Ltd" won that? Sorry, but getting more cars in the top 15 and more pole positions (as mentioned on the telecast) does not give you a Championship victory. To say it does is pathetic. I also think that supporters red or blue would agree that the HRT were NOT the best "presented" this year. The cars were ugly to start with, they often came back with bent panels and even swapped paint between themselves on one occasion which lead to more ugliness. If a Holden team must win the award give it to PWR, or CPR.... or GRM.......or KRT...............or even bloody Team Dynamik! All of those cars looked better than those HRT things. HRT have presented some good cars in the past (the 2000 VTs were especially sexy) but this year they were awful. One final point. Maybe Skaife is the most popular driver but until RPM make it so that you can only vote once in the poll then the award is absolutely meaningless. I voted for Russell Ingall and Brand Jones Racing in the two people's choice categories but I only voted once, which is probably why they didn't win. Sorry Russell, if I had spent more time on the RPM site clicking away over and over again, you could have won it. My fault. Thank goodness for Andrew Jones's speech. It was one of the rare highlights of the show. Everybody at Valvoline, Repco, Cummins and Holden should be delighted at having this guy on their side. Not only can the kid drive, he is the most polished and professional speaker in the category! And how old is he? I can think of another young chap who drives red, blue and white Commodores who could learn many things from him.............. - sorry about the length - |
