The Davisons have never been lucky in the series winning department, but that may have no bearing on the outcome.
Which Davison lineage is Will from? Will Power is Bob Power's son, I imagine, Jamie Whincup from the Melbourne Sports Sedan household? Nobody gets anywhere in FF in Australia these days unless their parents raced! The biggest joke was Marcus Ambrose not driving a van Diemen because of Ross' falling out with the marque he helped found... |

I havent seen the races yet so I will wait to see trackside before passing any comments.
Ray Will Davison is Lex Davidon's grandson and the son of the guy who owns Sandown and his brother ran in the German Porsche cup last year (I think thats right). I didnt know that Will Power was Bob Power's son though...Jamie Whincup is the son of Greame Whincup ..Jamie was/is one of Australia's best karters with many national titles behind him. Interesting story about Greame though..he was big in sports sedans years ago and spending huge amounts of money each year on his car..he decided to sell up all his equipment and buy go karts for his whole family to go racing together..and promptly found out that Jamie had exceptional talent and has since put all his efforts into Jamie's career. good to see that a man who was ultra sucessfull take time out for his family but still enjoy motorsport at its grass roots levels. I think jamie will win the formula ford series ..but maybe next year as this is his first full year in the series. |

That clears it up for me, thanks, Marcus...
Will and Alex Davison are brothers, they are therefore the sons of Richard, who is the younger brother (or one of them... there were nine kids, I think...) of Jon, who holds the lease on the Sandown circuit and promotes the major meetings there. Jon and Richard had an older brother, Anthony, who was a great bloke and told me of the day he represented the family at the AGP when - just one week after their father died at Sandown - the new AGP trophy was announced and it was named the Lex Davison Trophy. Minutes later he was to see his father's protege die in the second team car just past and opposite the pits... Anthony died two years or so ago, just before the Calder meeting where Lowndes had that monster rollover... he was right with Alex up until then, one of the main helpers in the pits, as he had been alongside Alan Ashton in his father's pit, and with Jon and Richard during their racing. Their mother, Diana, remarried old family friend Tony Gaze a while after Lex's death. She had in the meantime presented yet another trophy, a perpetual trophy. It was to be awarded to the winner of the major openwheeler race at Bathurst each Easter. Apart from the irony of that, and the fact that nobody now knows where the trophy is, she gave a great speech that day up at the Mountain, just weeks after we'd (and I include myself, I was there) seen the two drivers die, and my memory of this and conversations with her since have me regard her as the First Lady of Australian Motor Racing. |

Yep, Will Power is Bob's son, and he is a mighty fine steerer. Really, he was unlucky last year in the Spectrum; his massive up and over and over at Phillip Island really did knock his confidence around for a while. I'd expect him to be right there at the finish of the season..
