Please pass this message on to other disinterested parties |

Can I say how sorry I was to read this thread. Most of us are quite clear that Marshalling is as much as the social intercourse on the "Bank" as our interest in Motor Racing. It is therefore, a shame that a Social Evening has been cancelled. I am sure that the Midlands Committee put a lot of effort into the organisation, and to see these efforts wasted must be disheartening. No doubt, many Marshals will "post" their reasons for not supporting this function!!

My reasons are, on paper, £35 for a pub buffet with a quiz was overpriced considering next years BMMC 50th aniversary dinner dance at a lavish hotel with nearby hotels (no taxis needed) is £5 less.
It is regretable that what could have been a great end of year "do" hasa had to be cancelled and maybe lessons have been learnt about marshals social spending power. Last edited by Stack; 31 Oct 2006 at 18:24. |

NJF worked very hard to get the party organised and I'm sure she's feeling pretty upset right now that no-one was interested after all her efforts. |

Sorry, bad memory. Even so, on top of £23 you have to add on the cost of a hotel and transport to and from Mallory which is in the middle of knowhere for public transport and the nearest town-Earl Shilton-does not have many hotels/B&B's.(I only know of one)
As I said "on paper" perhaps if more information regarding what was on offer and a place in a larger city could be found them maybe more people would have been interested.(me for one) I do feel sorry for all concerned who I'm sure have put a lot of hard work into this and only hope it has not put them off trying again. Maybe a questionare for members to fill in on their preferances might help? |

Stack, I'm assuming that you received your Newsletter with details of the party? If so, you'll see that I went to great trouble to include a list of accommodation near the venue, including phone numbers!
As for asking the members to complete a questionnaire ... |

Maybe 'Stack', living in Leicester as I do, would consider joining our committee??
The tickets, flyers, emails, advertisements, news letters, all clearly stated £23 NOT £35. As Sheila has said, a lot of thought and hard work by ALL of the committee went into organising this event, not just at our 6 weekly meetings at Tamworth,(which is an 80 mile round trip for me) but also at the race/rally meetings we all attended this season sounding out regular members for ideas for a 'DO' to be what they wanted as an end of season party. If people have been misinformed, then please let me know how and by whom so that it can be avoided next year if 'our', ie 'your', committee decide to put the time and effort into trying to do something to end the season on a high and give us all something back for all of the hard work done over this year. These parties are organised by ourselves to bring us all together to recap over the year, share experiences, gossip about others and talk about next year, usually a pleasant evening. The BMMC Midland Region covers a huge area, we cannot please everyone with location but we tried to get somewhere local, easily accessible, and relatively 'cheap' for somewhere to stay. Sheila worked hard to list local b&bs etc which she didn't really have to do!! A lot of time and effort on her part. Everyone's constructive thoughts for next year's party will be seriously considered and greatly appreciated - if we decide to go ahead!! I for one, and I don't speak for the committee, am extremely ****ed off that no-one has expressed their disappointment at the party being cancelled. I hope other regions have more success!! Rant over, PLEASE LET US KNOW WHAT YOU WANT FOR NEXT YEAR AND MAYBE WE CAN ACCOMMODATE IT IN OUR BUDGET. I'm sorry to mention your name at the top of this reply Stack, it is not personal, but getting facts wrong is detrimental (sic) to our party. Please don't take it personally. Nicky Funnell - BMMC Midland Region - Social & Recruitment Officer. |

I have posted notice of the AGM of the Midlands Region elsewhere on this forum and in the newsletter and I can guarantee that the people who turn up will be the committee and the same dozen or so who turned up last year, the year before and the years before that as well. For some strange reason, marshals are happy to gripe about anything and everything but when we try to get them involved they clam up and disappear into the woodwork! If you would like to become more involved in what the Midlands Region does for its members, then as NJF says, you are welcome (as are all our members) to attend any of our Committee meetings. Basically yes, just join then ask to be part of Midland, although you'll probably go there automatically.
