Wins after 200 races
With Michael Schumacher driving in his 200th G.P. race, and people talking about his longevity, I have a question for the forum. Has a F-1 driver won one or more races after passing the 200 race mark?

Only 5 drivers have done more GP's
1 Patrese, Riccardo 255 2 Berger, Gerhard 210 3 de Cesaris, Andrea 208 4 Piquet, Nelson 203 5 Alesi, Jean 201 Alesi did'nt win his last GP, Piquet's last won was Montreal '91, but before his 200th and de Cesaris never had a win. Patrese & Berger are on the 200+GP wins list. Berger won at Hockenheim in 1997, which was just after his 200th. Patrese had 3 wins after his 200th, Mexico & Estorial in 1991, and his last win at Suzuka 1992. |

Michael shoudl get 3 wins after his 200th - quite possibly the next 3. The chances of him continuing to 2007 depend on whether's he's still enjoying it - we all know that he isn't interested in statistics. My hunch is that if the radical rules come in for 2006, he'll do at least one season under them.

Michael has been entered in 200 Grands Prix, but he's only started 198.
His Ferrari blew up on the warm up lap at Magny-Cours 1996, so he didn't take the start there. And at Silverstone 1999, the race was red-flagged and restarted from scratch, so he doesn't get a start there to his total either. |

Well maybe he try and be the first person to do 300 races.
How old were the other drivers when they did there 200th race? |

If he wins every race from now, he will have won 100 races by the end of next year!

Didn't Piquet race 204? Only 2 champions beyond 200 - it shows how impressive Michael's motivation is. It's one thing to continue when you haven't won what you think you should have won. It's another to just keep winning.

Last time I checked there were two of them red cars in each race.
Like I said, I guess you need to know a little bit more than the superficial appearance of F1 - people with experience wouldn't hessitate to name him as the number one... people like Frank Williams for example who has often stated his belief that Michael is far ahead of the rest. Or Mark Blundell, or Martin Brundle... In fact - can you name a single credible F1 insider that DOESN'T believe that Schumacher is the best? |

I think officially, you count as 'starting' a Grand Prix if you so much as start the formation lap, so I believe Michael has now reached 200.

Michael has 200 GP presences. He has started 198 of them, officially. But it is still his 200th race weekend in F1.

Thats 75 wins out of 198 then not 200...
Thats a 37.8% win rate... |

I think that, officially, you count as 'starting' when you actually occupy the position on the grid. Is yes, both France 96 (when he didn't start the formation lap but was there) and Silverstone (when he took the first start) count as presences.

No.
It doesn't count unless you are on the actual grid - not the formation lap. In those two races Schumacher would be on the results as DNS not DNF. He has been entered for 200 Grands Prix and has started 198. |

For most statistics I have seen that a GP start is if you start formation lap.
That means Barrichello had only 15 starts in 2002 (with his failures in Spain and France). But in my books, Spain was officially 200th race for Michael. I think formation lap results should be counted, as well as those where you didn't take restart. Otherwise we are having a situation where Ronnie Peterson didn't start in Monza 1978, in a race he died. |

Hmm, yes, you're right about France - DNS. At Silverstone officially he DNF-ed though.

He didn't DNF at Silverstone, he DNS-ed.
The race had been red-flagged, so was removed from the records and started from scratch. It is a slightly strange situation, but it is correct. Jacques Laffite officially DNS at the race which ended his career - and likewise Peterson at the race which ended his life. |

Hmm, I can't find the official (I mean from FIA's web site) 1999 standings. Damn, whoever designed that site should seriously find some other job. But every other web-sites I've searched, put him as DNF. For example, F1.com says "Ret 3 Michael Schumacher Ferrari 0 Spun off"

That's wrong, Red.
And in any case, he didn't spin. |
