Lydden Accomodation
After passing the place on at least 15 occasions I am finally going to visit Lydden for a meeting.
Can anyone recommend ...... a) Accomodation of the B&B variety in the area b) Places to eat out in the region. Thanks. |

Last time I was there actually stayed in Dover - not too far down the road.
Didn't have to pay for accomodation that time, but understand the closer you get to the town and docks itself, the more expensive it becomes (for obvious reasons) - although that may be seasonal |

Your sure of a warm welcome at Lydden. When you come, pop over to the marshals hut so we can "clue you in" as to how things work. As to places to stay, Pauline the circuit manager has a list she can fax to you. You can reach her on the circuit number. The places on the list are used to having "racing folk" to stay, so explain your going to be at the track. Also, if you have a trailer it would be worth asking if there is parking available for it.
Places to eat at the circuit - well most marshals eat at Gail's (don't be put off by the fact that it used to be a horsebox...). Any idea which meeting(s) you're thinking of coming to? |

Premier Lodge in marine parade, Dover if good especially if there is more than one sharing room (prices about £45, accom only). Hotel and many rooms face the sea. Pub with meals attached.
T: 0870 990 6516 F: 0870 990 6517 Inland (and cheaper for one) There's the Three Tuns Inn at Staple (9 miles north of circuit) As a pub there are meal facilities on site. 01304 812317 (Tel & Fax) These are only two I have tried in area as I used to sleep in the Bus at the start line. Has the bus gone?!
I swear I saw it earlier this year behind the trees at the exit of paddock. |

The bus is still there - rumour has it that the chassis is too rusted to allow it to be towed away.

Gnomex - There's a British Sprint Meeting at Lydden - surely that's a good enough reason, I'm sure she'll understand. Anyhow, I didn't know that Gnomes got married!

Puzzled?
Does Gnomex travel round in a Metro?
Does he have a gnome of his own or does he rent? Any road up - try this for an excuse...... Sorry dear I have just got to pop down the road as the dilithium crystals in my pacemaker need replacing! |

OOPS there goes another
Just learnt in the last hour that the sprint scheduled for Lydden on the 16th April has been cancelled!
So it will be another year before I get to Kent's leading circuit! |

My 1st days as a couple (now the missis) were spent in a tent up on the hill above the paddock there...oh the thought of it! The wind, the rain, the cold, take a tent or kip in the car -its the best way and cheapest! (mind you I was slighty madder then than I am know before you say anything Upside down bug!)

No - I don't have a home and no I don't rent. Guess you could say I'm a nomad.... Years ago (showing my age) I used to listen to the Gnome Service on the wireless (with due acknowledgement to David Bowie - for those who remember) I could go on...(cries of "don't you threaten us") |

Accommodation for Lydden
For cheap accommodation try the Youth Hostel Association at Dover or Cante rbury. Contary to populsr belief you do not need to be a youth or indeed a member to stay there. Dover YHA contact details:- tel 0870770 5798 or e mail dover@yha.org.uk £19 per night for non YHA members including B&B. CanterburyYHA details:- tel 0870 7705744 or e mail canterbury@yha.org.uk Price the same as Dover.
You may end up sharing a room with a stranger but at least it's better than sleeping in a cold tent with no pub nearby! For more info contact the YHA on 0870 7708868 or www.yha.org.uk |

Thanks for all the info. With the event I was intending to go to cancelled it will have to wait for 2006 for my first visit!
