Huh, I had heard mumblings that Grand-Am running Long Beach was nixed a while ago.
Does this mean Trans-Am is officially dead too? |

Id rather not see it personally...I suppose the crowd will be good, but a horrible place for GA to race.

I thought the Long Beach thing was dead too. I guess we'll just have to see what happens.

Cool, now I don't have to mickey mouse my way in to Long Beach and could just use my hard card!
Will it be DP's only or GT only or both? I understand that they will split the classes next year. Also, what will get axed from the current LBGP card? Trans-Am? |

I heard that this was the last year for TransAm, but it may have been another rumor. Its not what it used to be (transam), and its best if the series just closes down to make room for prospering series like Grand Am or Speed WC GT/TC..

Champ Car said a couple of months ago that Trans Am would not be racing on their weekends next year...that is old news...
As for Long Beach...the place is not suited to sportscar racing....the event will not be a good one, and I'm glad the ALMS will not be going there.... |

I recall some remark along the lines of, "Trans-Am lives...as World Challenge GT", but I think that was saying more that SWC was replacing Trans-Am or was its spiritual heir than the name would transfer.

If Grand-Am is headed to LBGP in 2006, someone better tell them. They have issued their 2006 schedule and it is not on their. Granted, it could be held back for logistics and such, and added later.
As to Trans-Am, it will return in 2006 remaining under the Champcar management. The series is seeking a title sponsor and has 90% of the 2006 schedule done. They are looking to add 2-3 more venues prior to releasing the schedule. The comment about Trans-Am lives...as World Challenge GT was a snide remark by then SCCA president Steve Johnson, on an SCCA chat forum, prior to his departing to become prez of Champcar. |

As of this date, there are still TWO dates that Grand Am has yet to announce for 2006. It would that Long Beach is one of those dates.

Grand Am did not issue a final 2006 schedule. They issued an incomplete working schedule to teams of races that have been secured. This working schedule was leaked on the Internet. I also heard they cautioned teams that the dates on the incomplete schedule are tentative and subject to change pending finalizing the remaining race dates. Grand Am will run DPs at Long Beach. I am hearing that Mont Tremblant is gone due to local noise opposition, Mexico may move to the spring with the Busch series, Rolex GT (stand alone, no DPs) could run at Santo Domingo with or instead of Grand Am Cup, and California Speedway is not totally out of the picture as a season finale. |

I had hoped that the GAC weekend this past year was a trial run. I'm disappointed about the Mont Tremblant thing, but unsurprised. I guess Lawrence didn't really care any more about running his Ferrari in GT, and didn't want to put the effort into placating the unreasonable locals. The rest of what you state makes sense to me, but there would be an imbalance of GT versus DP races if GT runs in DR? (edit: d'oh, this balances Long Beach. oops.) I believe the goal is to have equal number of GT and DP. The other two "balance" options that I see but had not heard much about would be Three Rivers with GAC or Mosport with GAC.
The DR speculation is from some months ago when I heard that the promoter really wanted to find a way to get the Rolex GT cars with GAC. However, I also heard that TV is an issue and maybe it would be easier to solve the TV problem at Three Rivers or Mosport. But Mosport is also not on the tentative GAC schedule and I kind of wonder if Atherton would kill any ideas of having either series back there considering he just drew the short stick at Long Beach. |

GA is having a press conference today at 2 pm EST to announce a new event. Roger E. and Scott Pruett will be on hand. I wonder what event in question is?

I assume that they will announce that they are going to take a giant dump on long-time partner California Speedway in order to have a giant logjam in the first turn next April at Long Beach.... Maybe Maaco can be the title sponsor for the event.... (stated with advance apologies to the person who came up with that before I did....) |

California Speedway is an ISC track, so I don't think they'll take it too hard.
