What JV thinks of the IRL!!!
Jacques Villneuve's opinion I'm sure are shared by most of us in this Forum!!!!!
http://www.tsn.ca/auto_racing/news_story.asp?ID=5999&hubName= --------------------------- Villeneuve gives thumbs down on IRL 9/26/2002 Jacques Villeneuve says the Indy Racing League is an inferior product, in his opinion. "That's one series I don't rate (as legitimate)," Villeneuve tells the Indianapolis Star. The former CART champion is at the Brickyard for this weekend's U.S. Grand Prix Formula One race. Villeneuve says the IRL is trying to be like NASCAR by artificially manufacturing competition. The end result is the winner is not necessarily the best driver. "It's easy to make the racing close," explained Villeneuve. "Take half the horsepower away and create a lot of downforce so it's easy to drive for everybody. That doesn't make the drivers better, the cars better or the series professional; it's just a better show." Villeneuve, the last driver to win at Indianapolis before the CART-IRL split, says the Tony George owned series "destroyed" open-wheel racing in North America. |

I never liked Villeneuve that much but it takes some big ones to make such a bold statement about TG and IRL on their home turf. I think I'll be routing for another podium finish for Jacques this weekend.
It still doesn't beat "crapwagon" though. |

I look forward to seeing the Invisibles put a spin on this to make it positive! The only part of Jacques I have ever liked is his mouth, and it's good to hear him using it for a good purpose. Guess now he's about to lose his drive anyway he doesn't care what anybody thinks of him. (Or maybe he's still hoping for that Champ Car drive.)

Hey, we knew Jacques was smart. And note that all of Jacques' CART wins came on road courses and street tracks (except Indy)... so he's not going to like an all-oval racing series.
How about the name Illegitimate Racing League? Last edited by Jordi; 27 Sep 2002 at 17:33. |
