DJR gets a new sponsor...
Interesting to read in the motorsport press this week that the #18 DJR car shall be sponsored by Accor hotels for a number of rounds, replacing V8Telecom as title sponsor.
There was also some other postulations regarding Shell returning to the DJR squad as title sponsor from 2007... ... for it seems (according to the report) that the V8Telecom business is not travelling as well as expected.... The beginning of the end for DJR?? Or indeed the beginning, as tyrekickers alleged to be attending Queensland Raceway this weekend are said to be looking to revive the team to heights not seen since JB was on the driving strength......... |

Accor hotels are a affiliated with Sunrise, id imagine this has something to do with Denyer getting a start at Bathurst.

Sad to hear that V8Telecom isn't going to well, their telemarketer was the most pleasant I have dealt with yet. When I said I wasn't interested, he thanked me for my time........!
GTR, any idea as to what the "something different" approach alluded to in MNews about Shell's possible comeback to the championship could be? |

Before this gets out of hand...this is a reply to a similar question posted on the DJR website.
Hi All, DJR to be sold in 2007? I don’t think so! The good old rumour mill continues to churn. Every time we have a meeting with someone in the race industry, it turns out they are up for a team management position. Every time we are seen talking to a business owner / executive, they are going to be the teams new naming rights sponsor! If we have a chat with a Holden driver, someone says DJR is defecting to Holden! Sound familiar? It’s a little extreme but that’s exactly how most of these rumours start. In V8’s, the reality is, teams are talking to prospective employees and sponsors all the time. DJR is no different. No race team can afford to put out a “no vacancy” sign and say sorry, we’re full, no room for new sponsors! That said, here are some responses to clear up these sponsorship rumours… Will FirstRock and V8 Telecom continue to sponsor DJR? Yes. The sponsorship is working well for FirstRock and V8 Telecom, and both companies will continue to support the team. Is DJR considering new sponsors for 2007 on either of the cars? Of course we are. We have current sponsors interested in increasing their exposure with the team in different capacities, and several new sponsors interested in coming on board at different levels. In fact, we have a couple of sponsors interested in starting sponsorship this season. This doesn't mean we are definitely changing anything - as I said, we talk to interested sponsors all the time. Would DJR change liveries (car designs) mid season? If that’s what we need to do to accommodate a new relationship that will help the team move forward, we’ll do it. As FirstRock and V8 Telecom are owned by Dick Johnson, we have the flexibility to consider all options, without disrupting an ‘external’ naming rights sponsor arrangement. Is it all working? Well, you be the judge… DJR has had a lot of big shake-ups this year to get things charging again – staff changes, sponsor changes and operational changes to name a few. Our cars are quicker, the drivers are focused and passionate, and team morale is flying high. The team is firing on all cylinders on track and off track, and it’s because we have embraced the need to change in order to move forward. So yes, it’s working, and we still have a lot more to do. It is heartening to read the supportive comments in this topic from everyone that sees through the rumours – it takes more than a bit of gossip to fool a DJR fan! Let's just say that the rumour mill has churned "DJR is talking to potential new sponsors" into "DJR is up for sale!" ...it ain't! Hope this info helps. Cheers DIRECT @ DJR |

As I read it, MN reported the Accor deal, that the Telecom thing is a disaster, and industry rumours that Shell could be on the verge of coming back to sponsor the team "with which it had the longest Australian motorsport sponorship deal" - sounds like a possible saviour for DJR who are obviously underfunded. PS Poita, dont ever believe what you read in a team press release!

If you take the issues DJR raise, about everyone linking them to everyone else... maybe they should spend some time thinking as to why this is actually so? I am not convinced that every action that they mention isnt reported that way without the assistance, or knowledge to some sections of the motorsport media, to fan the flames around the team... when there is no on-track positivity to report. The powder room suggests that this team may have a number of highly placed leaks, whether this intentional or not is unclear... |

Well Im glad I came on here for an explanantion of the new signage as I could be stuffed if I could work it out from the coverage yesterday. For all I knew APVC could make brake fluid!
Actually I dont think I could even distinguish the letters themselves, wouldnt be better just to have Accor on the cars so at least people have a small chance of reecognising what it is all about? |
