Formula One Bikes

What were Formula One bikes. Where they 4 stroke, 2 stroke, what capacity were they, did they have a world championship, what year did they cease to exist, and did superbikes replace them.

From memory, very similar to the endurance spec machines of today. 750cc four strokes.

I thought the capacity limit was higher (1100cc) like the Mcintosh Suzuki ridden by Roger Freeth.
I think the class was discontinued early to mid eighties, the only F1 class now listed in the rulebook is sidecars with a 1300cc limit..

The TT F1 class allowed 750 four-strokes to run against 500 two-strokes, and F2 was for 600 four-strokes and 350 two-strokes. All engines were to be production-based, so no Suzuki RGBs or TZ350s, though those campaigning RD350LC-based bikes could and did use TZ gearboxes and clutches.
