What colour do Australian marshals wear?

I've just watched the WSB from Australia and was struck by the fact that the marshals were wearing orange boiler suits. Is this usual or is orange only used for bike marshals?

I had seen in a previous thread a list of the different coloured boiler suits which marshals wore, or does that only apply to car marshals?

white is the colour that Qld (ie me) and NSW CAMS marshals wear, i'm guessing that the orange is a MRA ( motorcycle racing australia)thing???

Kaybee,

The orange overall thing is localised to the Phillip Island Grand Prix circuit.

Although the flag marshals in South Australia all wear Orange also.

Phillip Island Motor Sport (PIMS), are the company that operates the circuit for owners, PLACETAC (I think that is how you sell it). In order for them to have the most closely matched team on the ground they went out and purchased a large number of Orange overalls for all of their trackside marshals.

The orange overalls are used at all major Phillip Island events, including MotoGP, WSB, V8 Supercars, Konica Supercars, and PROCAR rounds.

At the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix the overalls are owned by the Australian Grand Prix Corporation, and all of these overalls are white.

But to give you a good indication of the colours of Australian Marshals, I will list them from the Grand Prix:

Trackside Marshal: White Overalls - Orange Cap
Flag Marshal: White Overalls - Yellow Cap
Communicator: White Overalls - Blue Cap
Spectator Marshal: White Overalls - Black Cap
Fire Marshal: Red Overalls - Black Cap
Medical Staff: Green Overalls - Green Cap
Supply & Paddock Marshals - Event Shirts, Black Slacks, Red Cap
Senior Marshal: Senior Marshal shirt, Black Slacks, and White Cap

That is just a very general way of identifying the Australian Marshals.

As I stated earlier, it can change from the different events you go to.

For example at the Clipsal 500 (A V8 Supercar race which has well over 200 000 people attend the 4-day event) in Adelaide has Orange overalls for all Flag Marshals, and absolutely nothing for it's Trackside Marshals.

I hope that answers your question.

Vandas thanx for your eloquent description and list of jobs and colours, however, I now have some more queries: how are fire marshals defined? is it a grade or a duty (work from fire tender) and who are the ones I've seen wearing yellow?

fire marshals work from tenders and at most bigger events you will have 2 fire marshals per point , wearing the red overalls and balaclava's , they look after the fires /crashes and we look after the flags and oil spills etc

PIMS try to force everyone to wear their orange overalls at their events so that their sponsors get a run on TV which prevents the marshall groups own sponsors from getting a run at those events. Luckily enough of us tell them where to go.

Fire Marshalls in Victoria, NSW, Sth Aust and West Aust wear Red, Vehicle Recovery wear Blue in NSW, Flaggies in Vic wear White, they wear either White or Orange in NSW (depending how high up the food chain they are) and SAMROA officials wear Orange/White overalls. Racesafe members in Victoria wear Yellow (green stripes for Medical, Red Stripes for Safety Team).

In short, there is no standard uniform for marshalls in Australia.
