Are the good old days of the privateer!
Imagine if Thexton and the Lusty brothers combined to form a mega team and took on the world! |

Are not most the teams in Supercars Privateers?
would have thought only T8 and Kellys were not privateers and 23 Red would meet the criteria of even the most purist of fan or are we saying that the driver has to drive for his own team in which case Jono Webb would be more recent |

Stange to call it a sad day or the saddest day - unless your tongue is firmly planted in your cheek of course.
Thexton had a single car operation with a racing entitlement contract that he bought, same as Tekno or Team 18 or 23 Red now - no difference to them at all. Biggest handicap the team suffered from was the pilot - if they'd put someone with some talent in the driver's seat, who knows - they might have delivered some results and built the commercial base to keep going. As it was, it was all funded out of Mr Thexton's pocket (or his businesses anyway) so tenure was always likely to be limited. |

Was reading about Cameron McLean in a great story by Aaron Noonan over on another website the other day.
I had forgotten that Mr Thexton purchased McLean's race team to get into the sport. Cam says David turned up with a "big chequebook and the timing was right so we sold it to him..." |

Thread should be re-titled "14 years since Thexton's last appearance".
Many actual sad things have occurred between 1993 and now. |

Also agree with you 71. Even more so because Jase and I were friends. It was devastating to hear around lunch time in a press release that Jase passed on. (I originally heard from Simon Wills via Facebook on that day in the morning but we discovered another guy named Jason Richards who was UK journalist died while riding a Moped in Asia so we all thought that it was that Jason Richards, not our mate Jase. Called Brad Jones but even though he didn't answer, I didn't think much as Brad was meant to contact me ASAP if anything happened to Jase so was in a mindset of "no news is good news") |

I had tears that Bathurst podium. Will never forgot that one.
The Jason Richards memorial thing they did at Sandown was pretty special. I'm guilty of getting stuck into Jason - used to get frustrated at him throwing away decent finishes by doing something silly (rear-ending Skaife at a pit entry comes to mind) but I was cheering hard when he made the podium at the GP round and that little interview post race really got to me https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yb6NhhSeSqE |
