Looks pretty bare doesn't it? Hopefully someone will see what an eyesaw the car is with no sponsorship, and give them a bit of a hand.

Lets just hope they get some support in the coming weeks.

The stickers were peeled off after the practise session - something happening there we don't know about yet.

The SuperCheap sponsorship was due to finish at the end of this year.
The speculation is that something happened this afternoon about where the sponsorship was going next year that made SuperCheap pull the deal.

Well there's a merchandise truck there that's not worth much money at the moment.
Poor Ellery.
If I were a rich man with a business I'd have him put some of my stickers on his car to get him out of trouble for at least the weekend.
But I'm not a rich man with a business, so, damn. Poor Ellery.

Five Year Relationship Collapses
22 October 2004

Five Year Relationship Collapses

ONE of Australia’s leading retailers, Super Cheap Auto (SCA), announced today it would cease its association with Steve Ellery Racing (SER) after a five year relationship.

Super Cheap Auto Managing Director, Mr Bob Thorn, said SCA had carefully considered its involvement with the motorsport team and undertook a comprehensive review of the alliance before it reached the decision to terminate its relationship with SER.

Mr Thorn said after an analysis of marketing activity, he believed single car teams were finding it increasingly difficult to compete in this high profile category and that to be competitive, well funded two car teams would become the norm.

“SCA advised the SER team in July that if SCA were to continue to participate in V8 Motorsport they would only do so with a fully-funded two car team,” he said.

“At this time SCA also advised SER that for them to be considered for 05, SER would need to have confirmation of the additional committed funding arrangements (from other parties) by the end of August 2004. No such confirmation was received.

“Bruce Ellery of SER was made fully aware of the situation and was advised at the end of August that SCA would not be continuing in its role as sponsor past the 2004 season”.

Mr Thorn said the company had intended to announce the end of the partnership as soon as the decision was reached, but agreed to delay the announcement at the sole request of Bruce Ellery.

“We agreed to Bruce’s request out of respect for the partnership we had forged, however unjustified claims and emotional outbursts made by Bruce Ellery in the last week have now made it necessary for SCA to make its position clear.

“SCA has been considered one, if not the best sponsor in the field, through its support, both financially and personally of the Ellery team. To now have accusations made by Bruce Ellery is sincerely disappointing and not the way I believe a sponsor should be treated.

“Throughout our association SCA has been extremely supportive of the Ellery team, and I am concerned about the potential damage to SER’s reputation these serious accusations could have. The team has suffered this year from the loss of key race team personnel and disappointing results for the 2004 season, and unfortunately recent events are compounding the situation.”

Super Cheap Auto Racing, has been a fixture on the Australian motorsport scene since 1996, growing from a sponsor of club racing in Geminis to Holden HQs, GT Production cars and finally to V8s where the company has been associated with driver Steve Ellery for the last five years.

“In recent times, the V8 Supercar Category has evolved to become a highly professional competition. Our research indicates that in order to gain a positive return on our investment a two car team would be required and this is the avenue we will be exploring in the future.”

Super Cheap Auto is currently reviewing their involvement in motorsport and at this point in time has no agreement in place for the V8 category.

It will be interesting to see which Supercheap ad's they runthis weekend during the telecast then, as most of them have some reference to SER.
