First time marshal

Hello all

Just some quick questions

I wouldnt mind giving marshalling a go, however...

You guys and girls all have those nice orange overalls now i doint really want to go and buy these if i then dont like it so can you hire them on the day?

I have waterproof stuff but nothing like the orange suits you guys have.

Is there anything else i would need for a first time trackside?

Any advice greatfully recieved.

Hi Simon,

The best advice I can offer is to do a taster day first to see how you get on, what's your local circuit and I will get some contact names for you?

For the day you should take with you waterproofs, good boots/shoes, hat, plenty to eat and drink, sun cream if it's hot, if not warm clothing and make sure your clothes/coat don't clash with flag colours, in particular red or yellow.

I hope that helps and look forward to seeing you soon!

if you wish to "blend in" with the guys n gals on post contact the organising club prior to to the event as a lot of chief marshals have access to probans which they will loan out for the day. But as has been said before warm clothing that will not clash with the flags, denims are best as they are basicaly the same material as the overals used (minus the proban treatment) they are hard wearing. As a trainee on first meeting it is highly unlikely that you would be in the position where you would need the fire protection offered by the probans.

welcome Simon, to the Orange clan

you don't even need to take them, someone will have a spare set for you to use. think we all have a few pairs with us just in case.

Spare Overalls

I usually have several spare sets with me. These were given to me by 'Volunteers in Motor Sport' for loaning to newcomers on a day to day basis.

Simon, In my humble opinion, Brands is one of the (if not THE), best circuits in the UK. Just about every form of racing you could want visits the circuit every season. I rarely feel the need to venture further afield. Rest assured you will get a good welcome at Brands.

Good luck with your future in marshalling.
