Bonneville 400 - now Audi???

http://www.mulsannescorner.com/news.html

Its pure speculation but I got an inkling the other day that Audi are thinking about going on a mission to steal Honda F1's thunder at Bonneville later this year...

Do you really think the R10 can go 400 km/h unrestricted? They had a top speed of only 320 km/h. The TDI engine is producing 650 hp.

I guess they need at least 900 hp to go 400 km/h, because the Bugatti Veyron needs 1000 hp, but it is extremely heavy and has high drag.

weight is a little irrelevant at bonneville - yes I think the R10 could quite easilty do 400kph in a minimum down force set up (bear in mind you get about 11 miles at bonneville)... whether it could do it on salt is another matter. Also with a big ol lump and unrestricted I think it would have silly power. an LMP is far less draggy than a F1 car

interesting german people with Silver cars, who gave me lots of data on the R10! Marco Werner was one of them!

i am the only one that thinks that hondas attempt at boneville was pathetic?...im mean 252mph isnt exactly fast, considering that champcars oval record is 241mph, going around corners and that drag racing record is 335mph, in a quarter of a mile, for the price of the honda f1 car and their so called technical expertise i was expecting alot more...should have just shoved a hemi in the back! although i really hope audi do this, to get a diesel to go that quick would be another feather in audis HUGE hat at the moment, theyre certainly leading the way in sportscar racing

I thought Honda's attempt was rained out and they will be back this year to finalise it?

ascar - Honda are running on Salt not on Tarmac, much much more difficult.

As for Audi leading the way in Sportscars - hmmm ask Henri...

Indeed the Honda attempt washed out but the will be back this year.

Does anybody know what dates it is run? Does it clash with any LMES races?
That could squash this rumour.
